get a PS2 slimline.
I would like to put my PS2 in my 91 Soarer but there isn't alot of options as to where it can go.
There is no room under either seat as I have a UZZ31 with all electric goodies, The Glove Box was looking promesing until a test fit showed that toward the back it gets abit smaller. That leaves me with the Boot or Cutting it into the Rear seat.
The Problem with Cutting it into the rear seat "Think Headrest Monitor" is that it is in plain view, Cut into the seat and will leave a big hole when removed and there might not be enough room to place the ps2 all the way in, as the fuel tank is behind there too.
The Boot would be the best place as a I can keep it inplace with Velcro Tape (tested), It's out of sight and can be easily removed when not needed. The problem I face with a boot install is the controllers and reseting it when it freezes. I baught the IR DVD remote which gives me all the controll I need but DOESN'T work unless it can see the PS2, so I assume I would have the same problems with IR Controllers.
Any gamers out there know of a remote and controllers what will work "through walls"
get a PS2 slimline.
...... butt scratcher?!
Jaycar also used to have an IR relay for non-LoS applications. Not sure if they still do, but that could be quite a viable option.

Yeah they do. I think the kit was about $30. If your handy with the soldering iron, should take under an hour to make up.
What about under the rear seat? I have a soarer myself, but havnt pulled the back seat before.

If you've got a hard / vinyl covered back on your drivers seats you'll often find theres a lot of space under there.
You could disassemble the seats and mount a playstation and monitor in there in most cases without probs... you would just need to get an auto trimmer to neaten up the vinyl once you've done the bulk of the work.
Interesting you say that, do our Group A seats have much space inside the back of them? I'm considering putting in a car PC but don't want to chuck it under the seats or in the boot, I want it all out of sight.Originally Posted by Toobs
Could possibly mount it under the rear passenger seat by cutting away some of the foam but it still doesn't give me the cordless controllers,
I don't want a slimline and spent 3 weeks finding a store still selling the original as I have a 160Gb HDD with over 60 games on it.
Might look into the jaycar option, I don't really want to open it up but if I have to, I have to.

Nah, this thing is just a retransmitter. You put one sensor in yoru dash and the trans in the boot. Point remote at dash....

Awesome, Thats sounds like the go. anyone got an actual name or product ID?
HAHAHA my GF just told me she has one for her Foxtel in her room...
take the 'brains' and all out of the ps2 and you'll be amazed how much more room you'll have. ppl i know have customised there's so that the cd tray is in the dash and the brain is in the glovebox etc.
if your good with a soldering iron and think outside the square you'll find a way.
....mine just fits under the seat in the wrx![]()
AE86 - coming soon to a quiet mountain pass near you...
WRX - currently epa'd...
Yeah I would love to open it up and move things around but then it would be no good inside out of the car.
Basically just go into Jaycar and ask about it. Used to come as a kit im pretty sure. I got a few on SP several years ago.

go to a hobby shop and see if you can buy a strand of optic fibre if they are IR remotes. route the optic down the side of the car (dont kink it) to somewhere on the dash (or wherever you want to have the remote point to), the other end points to the reciever on the PS2. fix the remote so it always points to the end of the optic fibre.
the controllers could be done slightly differently if they are cabled controllers (i would have thought IR controllers would be a little harder as you always have to point the controller towards the optic fibre, if they were RF controllers then it is piss easy as it should 'just work'), grab some extension leads for the controller and route the cables to the front of the car or centre console, have the female plugs either flush mounted somewhere or just loose in the centre console or glove box or something, then when you want to use it just plug your controller into the re-routed extension plugs.
most ps2 controllers are RF, not IR, will work fine. saw a couple go for $30 at HN (9 meter RF range)
Theres probably not enough to fit a PC... enough for a slim PS2 and a TFT monitor though.Originally Posted by tooch
Theres quite a bit of room in the base of the seats though... you could build a miniATX PC into it without too much of a problem.
