Default 7mgte a340e transmission installation issues

I'm swapping over a a340e tranny, but no matter how much jiggling and using different angles on the jacks, I can't get the bellhousing to engine flush. The closest I can get is about 1cm away.

I lowered it back down and checked that the torque converter was in position properly and that the input doodad is the same shape as my old converter and it was. I've been fiddling around for 6 hours now just trying to get it to go that last cm - with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hm, i thought i had replied to this, btu it must have gotten lost.
Anwyay, what it might be is the dowel pins being a bit too much of an interference fit. Try getting a couple of the LARGE bolts through the holes and in a few threads so then you know it is rotationally aligned, and once the box is properly supported again you can step back and take a good look at the setup without constantly trying to be getting the box on.

Check the dowel pins arnt gettnig stuck, i usually put a drop or two of engine oil on mine to make it easier to slip them into the gearbox bellhousing.

Well, I figured out what the problem is..

The small shaft at the front of the converter that goes into the rear of the block sits out about 7mm too far in comparison to the other converter. I tried to put it back up and the converter is flush against the flex plate, but still has the gap between bellhousing and engine.

I guess I will try and use my old converter with the new transmission...

There you go. If you can take some photos of the two side by side and compare them out of the box. If they truely arnt interchangable please post in the non interchangable thread.
    Cheers

I can do that. I'll take some pics of both of them, then if I find out for sure that is the problem, I will post about it on that thread.
