One - Its is not close to, it is the same for 2T/3T and therefore 3TGTE. WDE_BDY has got it right.

Two - there is no such thing as a seperate bell housing for j160 - it intergral to the gearbox and therefore cannot be removed. Therefore let me tell you that the J160 does not bolt up to any bellhousing.

Three - the 1gg to w58 (or 55/57) bellhousing will also bolt up to the 2T/3T 'cos as has already been stated the engine bolt up pattren for the 1GG/1GF is the same as the 2T/3T.

Four - not sure where the M series bell housing comes into it 'cos its real different.

Slave cylinder is on the opposite of the T vs G bellhousings.

ie, use a G bellhousing on your T, and the slave cylinder will be next to the dump pipe.
Use a T bellhousing on your T, and the slave cylinder will be on the opposite side, away from the heat.

    The cost reflects this.
    Genuine 3TGTE (only T I believe to have a factory W5x) bellhousing is worth a good 300+
G bellhousings are worth what ever you can get for them.

There is also a T series to W40/50 bellhousing if the W50 is more suitable for your vehicle. However they seem to be even rarer than the 3T-GTE bellhousing. I know they were used in the 3T-E powered TT132 (probably others as well) but good luck finding one of those in NZ let alone in Oz. Other cars they were in may be more common but I haven't come across any.

    Gidday

WDE_BDY is correct an advantage of getting hold of a 3TGTE bell housing is that it keeps the started motor on the RHS which does simplified the conversion.

Just for interest if someone is looking to fit a j160 to a your car you might like to have a look here. http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6369
Even if I am talking about a Celica itt may help with some of the issues that you face with the Corolla.

Just looked at the pics in that link.
The box on the left of the first pic has the starter bulge on the wrong side of the bellhousing.

Any one care to confirm the J160 side?

Well this has sure opened up a whole can "o" worms. Looks like I may have a proper 1G bell and can line up a W57 from an RA60, so I may have problem solved, (hopefully).
When hunting around, I couldn't find a 2T/3T auto or manual bell anywhere. As only 2 Aus delivered Toyota's came with a "T" motor, and their sheer vintage now this didn't suprise me.
Keep me posted though if anyone has something incase this falls through.

Cool, I won't go sticking me head under the car late at night.
By the way, 2S (ST-141) is close but not close enough. Same width but just a little taller.
After concluding your engine swap is going to be a bolt in type affair (befor removing 2S p00 motor), and then discovering this is not funny.
