overheating 2SC

hey guys i just replaced the head on my 2SC motor out of my carona and its overheating now its got a new water pump, a fairly new radiator and new hoses.
hoas this happened to any of u guys ???

you may find that there is an air lock in the system, causing it to over heat. is there a bleed screw on those engines?

you may need to run the car with the radiator cap off and the front jacked up, hopefully this will get the air to circulate and come to the highest point. that being out the radiator.

give that a go and see what happens.....

well, you have gone to the trouble of fixing up the rest of the cooling system. so for a few more dollars i would definetly replace the thermostat......

then bleed it all out and see how it goes.

mate these engines run on hot but how hots hot? i mine sits at about 80-90degs

also check for bhg (or) and a cracked head i know you changed it but i just gave my mate a spare head that i thorght was ok but it ended up farked

check if theres shit in the rad or cooling system if so flush it like theres no tomorrow also check the dip stick for water if so your in poo poo if not it's all sweat then start the engine with the rad cap off and let idel until the termostat opens or when the water is hot if it bubbles well then your in a pickel these engines love heat and love cracking heads so a extra fan would'nt hurt

also i was once told by my friend that his uncels brand new merc or jag i carnt remeber would always over heat he replaced the rad cap and it seamed to solve it he but it down to the cooling system not sealing MEH might be drunk scottish mans talk but a new 3 buk rad cap would'nt hurt

yea i checked the oil and thats fine and theres no bubbles but now u mention it when i was cleaning the block and the head of all the old gasket abit went into then water jackets and that could of gotton caught up in the radiator also it progressivly gets hotter and hotter the most its gotten to is about 130 C but thats way too hot i might get a thermal fan while im at it i think

i was thinking a possible cause could be the timing but its running perfect plus theres no reason for the timing to be thrown out from changing a head considering i marked it all out properly

Bringing up an old old ollllld skool thread here...

My Cresta (1S-U engine, which is pretty identical to 2S-C) has been heating up when in idle traffic and every once in a while in slow traffic on a hot day.

I have changed the headgasket and waterpump on it not long ago , and there is no "murkeyness" in the radiator or constant bubbles so no BHG

I have used Tecaloy and Nulon cleaners on it twice not much shit came out but heres an example of what happens.

When driving along without heavy traffic the car works fine, then when stopping at the lights for an extended period of time (large intersection) the heat will creep up to jus below the -- line for HOT

once cruising again it will go back down to half way.

one thing i must add is that without the HEATER on the WHOLE time im driving it will heat up to HOT pretty much no matter wat ....

2 things about the car
1: There is NO fan shroud for the radiator and there is a clutch fan on the engine (Jus like 2S-c)
2: there is no coolent leaks ANYWHERE and i've replaced the coolent with tecaloy 100 and replaced radiator cap.


Can anyone figure out a solution ??

put a shroud on it and check that the fan clutch is in good condition (when rooted they dont pull bugger all air) then all should be good.

Ive been told by Adz/MattAE86 (note: Genius's)
that the clutch in the fan is indeed fucked and the fan is locked in a solid state , if u know what i mean ....

how does it not pull as much air ???

if its rooted and solid it should be sweet but sometimes they freewheel therefore no airflow.

i agree with linden, definatley put a shroud on it, you'd be really suprised at how much more efficient a shroud can make a cooling system. and id be looking at the fan for trouble.

get the car to full operating temperature. give the car a rev to say 2500ish rpms, the fan should be spinning at 1:1 with the waterpump or what evers driving it. if its spinning, but just idling around it will need to be replaced.

the radiator is operating efficiently because its keeping cool once its got some airflow through it on a run, so that shouldnt be a problem.
