Default 7M toyota motors on LPG

I recall reading somewhere that there is a perticular toyota motor that doesn;t take well to LPG use..
I plan on converting a 7M to LPG use shortly-Are there any known problems i should know about?
I recall something about a toyota motor that has a tendancy to crack when used with LPG.....

Friend had one in a Corona Mk2. Did a 12.8.

IJ on supramania was making 360rwkW out of one.

Usual issue of head gasket. APR head studs should be fine. If you have the motor apart, deck the block and head mating surfaces.

Probably the Toyota engines with nasty reputations on LPG are the 1FZ and, worse still, the F Landcruiser engines.

The engines that died, were they running duel fuel?

When an engine is tuned for purely LPG, not kinda for petrol and kinda for LPG, it generally runs better with less chances of lean outs and such.

If done properly, an LPG setup is the bomb.

they wernt injected gas just that suckthrew system they were all dual but mainly used on gas i think if they would of mixed it up a bit it may not of happend or perhaps extended its life, gas runs pretty dry.

most lpg systems are the bomb but not in a good way more of an osarma way.

My 7mge cressida runs fine on LPG. If you keep 98 octane in your tank you can run ignition timing that works well for dual fuel.

Thanks heaps for the advice guys. Now i think i remember that it was the 1-FZ and 2 UZ that i had heard problems about.

Amichie, is that a Impco 225 mixer-If so how do you find it for gas usage/power and cold start-Any problems?

I'm not sure of the model number. It was fitted by the gas man and they said it was an Impco system. The tank is a manchester tank.

Performance and starting are faultless. Uses about 10% more litres per km than unleadead and marginal drop in power. However it runs silky smooth on lpg and has no lean out issues as I have a O2 sensor monitor on the dash.

Overall I find I enjoy driving more now since I know if I put my foot down its not going to blow the bank balance.

I think there are more 7m-ge owners with blown wallets than blown headgaskets due to expensive running costs.
