Tacho looks the goods mate, very compact... nice housing for it too.
I finally managed to migrate mine from the front seat to a more permanent location on the dash. It's slightly larger than yours though Craig...
OK had a day off so thought i would pull my dash apart agen...
because i got a new tacho and it looked
tops but my red dash did not match so i wanted to try the white LEDS...
and took some pic ..
the is the speedo cable some people were asking about..
the brassy looking thing is what you have to undo..
now went looking in my garage and pulled out a white pack i had from awhile ago
there was only 2 so went looking in my bag of trick and fond a convex one
so i got some 80 grit sand paper and ruffed it up (so the light would distribute better)
then put it all back 1 point i will make is when you put the LEDS in BEFORE you put all the dash back together make shore the LEDS work if there not working all you have to do is turn them around.
all finished and only took about 1/2 hr
this is the new tacho in the custom cup i made..

Wouldn't it be cheaper, simpler and tidier to just put the factory tacho IC in rather than sticking that tiny little one on?

yes i did look in to getting a sx or gti dash cluster only $80 but then looked into it and found all the senses would have to be changed so was going to be a little over $210 so....
and i prefer the custom look any way when i have some time the whole dash will custom some thing like this...

I didn't know there was an easy alternative to this, so i made mine myself just recently using white LEDs from jaycar:
And the result:
Considerably better than the stock ke20 globesTurned out pretty blue, but not bothered
Going to change my interior light over as well.
Hi does anybody know wether these will fit a KE30 dash as my lights are really dull,

As stated previously puzzleman, the early dashes dont have the perspex light diffuzer, so this becomes a little sadder for anyone with an early dash. One solution ive found to work decently in early dashes is to pull the guages completely apart, and then clean up the box behind them and spray with chrome paint. Go light coats for the best effect, not a perfect finish, but it does reflect the light around your instrument a lot, and works wonders for the lighting.

ae86drift - As xolent said, just need to pull the dash cluster out, pull the old bulbs out ( being careful not to break the glass) and shove the new ones in.
As i said before, the only thing to look out for is dirty contacts on the plastic holders and the back of the cluster.
I recomend you turn the lights on to test that all the LED's light up before you screw everything back together - i had to pull it all apart when i figured out one LED didn't light up!![]()
xolent - The guages wont be lit totally even, the spots just infront of the bulbs will always be brighter.
At night, you barly notice it unless you look for it.
In the arvo, with a bit of ambiant light you notice it a lot more.
[Edit: This is in the AE86, could be different in other models]
Bananaman - Those guages look fantastic.
what if you scratch a little bit of the concave LED's like craig said to distribute the light a little bit further![]()
i still haven't got around to doing this lol...
