yes my rice-dar was going off 2.
My Corolla SX cluster takes 5 of these wedge type globes. So 2 x packs of 2 almost make it. Also, I saw at Autobarn they had ones that have Green, then Red alternating flashing. That'll really take your attention off the road.

Nice find!
Does anyone happen to know how many bulbs are in an xA6x analogue dash? I can't remember.
I'd be thinking most 1980-1990 inst clusters would have been the same, I'll check my ADM and JDM Ke70 ones and post result here. I just bought 10 of the bulbs off the guy, will probably report quality and stuff here too.
I suppose it can be considered rice, but when you really think about it, the instrument clusters are already lit up a certain colour, where's the rice in just simply changing the colour?

it is rice, any mod that doesn't make your car run better, go faster, stop better of go around corners is rice.
who cares, its your car, do whatever the hell you want to it!
might post up some pics of my LED globes, using 10 SMD LEDs per bulb in red.
i got sick of the red, now im using standard bulbs bare, as i like the "olschool" look.
Ahh well atleast it's cheap rice. $18.50 I paid for 10 of them including postage. Not like I'm shelling out $300 for a neon kit or something...

I'm overwhelmed by choice at that seller's ebay shop! I'm definetly going to replace my interior dome light bulb with some bright leds, I always feel it is too dull.
They also list "wide angle" dash bulbs as an alternative to the inverted dome type - any thoughts on whether these would eb a better alternative in our dashes?
Will be trying this out within the next week or two
So im assuming the LED's plug straight inCoz when i used to do some electronic work, we had to solder them in...
I have been pruned by old man river!!!!!
there a wedge stile globe that is the same as the old ones...Originally Posted by dimmy77_03

OK, I recieved the leds within a day or two (Amazing postage speed!! Especially since they came from HK), installed them yesterday and they work great. Slightly dimmer than stock globes, but still well bright enough to view your speed and revs. I would recommend going for the wide angle ones for anyone willing to shell out a bit more though, as I suspect these would be much brighter.
But for $10+post this mod is definately worth it for someone who is sick of stock greeny-yellow. I ended up using 7 bulbs, including the 2 for my indicator dash lights. Didnt replace the warning lights, as they are coloured by the sheet of red plastic that has the writing on them, and it would come out... purple... if i put blue globes in ahhah.
Will take photos once I get my car back from the mechanic.

AE86 rice, sweeeet!
I hated the green, so I pulled the condoms off the standard bulbs.
But they showed up Orange, so 10 bux later:
It's slightly brighter near the led's, but i can live with it.
Does the AE86 have two sizes of bulbs in the dash (5mm & 9mm) like tha xA6x Celicas/Supras do?
If so, I've only seen suitable 5mm leds sold - what did you do about the 9mm ones?
The blue ones i used in the photo above were the 9mm 168/194 type. I needed 4.
Here's a link to the ones i bought on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2pcs-T10-168-...92079814QQrdZ1
(I had no hassles buying from this guy but theres plenty of other people selling these things, so you don't have to use him.)
The AE86 dash uses 4 9mm bulbs for the main lighting.
9mm's are used fot the blinkers, high beams ect, but these shine through a coloured plastic lens, so no point changing them.
5mm lights are used for the idiot lights, these also shine through a red or orange filter.
You might have to clean up the contacts on the bulb holder and circuit board, i found that mine were pretty dirty and wouldn't run the center bulb until i shined up the contacts.
Interesting mod, although I don't think my instrument cluster takes wedge-based globes.
I'll need to do a bit of exploratory surgery to the dash in order to find out what type of illumination it's hiding in there....
