Default TA22 Engine Conversion Please advise me

Hi All New to this Forum. I have a TA22 and would like to fit a better engine. What are the options for a bolt in exchange or near to bolt in. My first Japanese car. I have played with English cars before but nothing as modern as this. I have decided that this will be my play car and I have sold the rest. I would appreciate any advice you have to offer

    Kind Regards

    Lockie

Your only "bolt in" solution is a 2tg. Your best course of action is to start reading through the members ride threads. UZ v8, LSx V8, beams 3sge, sr20, rotaries have all been done with varying amounts of work.

    I suggest you start with "Jaffa's" ta22.

3t, 3tgt, 4tgt are also bolt in. Basically all T series motors

4ag motors have been done, ca18, 1jz. I think almost every popular motor has been put in a ta22. depends what you want from the car and what you are prepared to sacrifice

    cheers

What do you intend to use car for, road and weekend track or track use only? Any engine other than factory option will involve engineering report for road use. In NSW, saw you are in Victoria so possibly different, capacity must be no more than 15 percent increase or no more than 10 percent power increase with modifications otherwise needs inspection. I am in slow process of building a 2t/3t hybrid for my TA22 with 86mm bore which calculates to 1812cc which fits inside rules. If I went 2tg, RTA said since not produced in Australia would have to be engineered. That is why i'm going 2t/3t.

Im sure if you buy a 2tg even with efi, you can change your current head and some internals with the 2tgeu motor. then the engine number stays the same...you get efi and go from there.

Thanks for the correction with the other T motors fade-e.

The boopy, you need to refer to the car modification rules for your state.

Here is the current information from the website.

    https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safe...ds-information

I do note that the engine swap to 2tg may not require certification as the 2TG was an option for that vehicle and from other discussions on this forum, a few were imported into Australia with that option. I don't read the rules as implying the car must be the Australian model, just that it must have the other equipment as installed by the manufacturer.

I don't think 3T was an option for the TA22. Some hybrid 2T/3T would be affected by other parts of the rule and might cause you some headaches.

But since I'm not a VASS Approval Signatory, you should talk to one about what you propose to do and get their in principle support before you start spending cash.
