Hey Toymob.

In the not to distant future I'll be beginning work on the body to complete my RA23. One of the things on the list to do is sound deadening. As per usual effective sound deadening is all about good rubber seals and reducing sound energy transferring through large flat panels. What I'm chasing is something relatively comfortable to do 100km/h in without having a bunch of wind and road noise for a 70s car, as I do intend to travel long distances and maybe even fit some roof racks and take it during the ski season.

I'm running an 18RG with the stock rubber mounts on the engine and gearbox so there shouldn't be too much vibration transferred to the body. Exhaust will have a few mufflers and rubber mounted to keep it pretty quiet really. The usual double seal on the gear shifter etc etc

From my own experience on my BA Falcon I found that lining most of the large area on the outer skin of the doors & the roof panel made the most difference, as well as replacing a few of the door rubbers with fresher ones. The Celica has a lot of these large flat panels.

I plan to line most of the roof and inside the doors and the space behind the doors with dynamat. Most likely attempt to seal out the rear parcel shelf and back seat to the boot area to reduce sound (and heat) transfer. Maybe a bit of that spray on tar sound deadener inside the guards at the front and rear to keep it tidy.

I'm not too sure what I want to do about the floor panels, whether I dynamat these as well?

What I really want to know is whether there anything else that is most important that I am unaware of, like particular seals that get old or always need replacing? How have other people gone about this?
