i know castrol does a blackjack remover (really strong degreaser) maybe squeese a lemon in a bucket of that and see how you go?![]()
I want to get rid of some sound deadening in hard to reach areas and wanted to try Citrus solvent as someone suggested a while ago (see pic). Does anyone know where I can get the stuff though? I tried Mitre 10, Bunnings and a paintshop. No luck....
I also tried other stuff they suggested at Mitre 10 (de-solv-it) and that is crap.

i heard dry ice is good. freeze hardens it then it chips off cleanly.
Chipping off is not the problem. Cold chisel, hammer and 1 hr of elbow grease sorted that out (cold chisel does not cause damage like wood chisel or screwdriver). I need to get rid of the remaining bits and areas that I cannot get to (some spots on firewall). Have tried a lot of stuff:Originally Posted by AAAAGZE
- useless: metho, engine degreaser, w&g remover, g.p. thinners and mineral turps
- some effect but not great: acetone and de-solv-it
- best so far: kerosine
Even kerosine only worked OK for smal bits.
Still not good enough and what I read about Citrus Solvent (see tin in pic) looks much more promising. I just want to know where I can buy it.....

I would also like to know where to get this from, looks to be a good item for where dry ice can not go.
loctite does a chisel gasket remover, kinda pricy but gets off any gasket, maybe that could be a shot?
my mate phoned everywhere for citric solvent, couldnt find it anywhere in perth either.
dry ice is still best option but due to gas crisis, havent been able to get any for last 6 months (should be able to buy some in december-ish)
Its not safe but petrol works very well . Bp ultimate

Here's an update. I have finally found a place that sells the stuff (see link), got a tin and tried it last night. It is better than kerosine, but only really suitable to remove any remnants after the bulk has been chipped off. Tricky to apply to vertical surfaces (firewall) because it is not very viscous.

who'd have though an arts supplier.... thats a bit outta left field
Would the citrus-based paint stripper be any good? is found in the paint section of most bunnings stores.
RA23, I feel your pain, some jackass, applied sound deadening in the wheel wells of the Crown ute, without first cleaning the areas. Yep you guessed it peeling and flaking off, but in some places it has stuck like concrete. Thinking I will buy a neddle de-scaler to run off the compressor. Then the clean up as you are doing, so keep us informed of what you end up getting to work.
cheers Chuck.

Probably not. The citrus stuff I have been using does not affect paint, just dissolves the black shit.Originally Posted by thechuckster

Needle scaler will fuck with the metal, expect stretching and so on especially since it's only panels. Heavy stuff is ok but guards and so on I'd be real careful around.

Job done. I ended up chipping everything off with a coldchisel and hammer and I cleaned up the small remains with the citrus solvent, this takes more time than chipping. Here is a before and after picture. The black stains in the after picture are all rust![]()
