You're talking about the SC clutch? I don't think they really 'give out' as such, as in wearing out. If it did, it'd just slip, so you'd make lower boost. If the return fails, or the electronics fail, it won't engage (or maybe won't disengage)

Are you having trouble with your SC?

yes, depends on the cause, if the SC relay fails and it permanently gorunds then the clutch will always be engaged, if it fails and doesn't ground it will never engaged, if the electro magnet burns out (which would probably require to be hooked up in reverse) it would never engage cause the magnet would be shot,

if the relay is fine and the clutch is always engaged then you may have a wiring error somewhere (grounding wire), you need a + and - to power the clutch

what mullet said about it slipping, it wouldn't slip from wearing out, the electro magnet won't ever get weaker, what wears is the metal on the plate, they have a series of spacers (washers) behind the clutch to keep it optimal distance, if this distance gets to far, the magnet won't have as much affect

however it is very rare for the SC clutch to give out, it is usually the relay

I get a rattling/buzzing noise from mine, particularly as the engine revs drop between gear changes... almost like the cabin rattle from hell... I thought this was clutch material rattling around but i'm afraid it's a bearing somewhere in the charger.

The noise only occurs when charger is engaged and has gotten significantly louder over the past month to the point where it doesn't sound safe to rev the engine very much.

If you accellerate and hold foot on the brake at the same time there's a rather loud rattling/pinging type noise coming from the charger.

    Any thoughts?

Yep, mine does that too, on lift off. Not sure what it is, it's always done it, always will (well, maybe not now that i've got a new SC14 ), but I tyhink it's part of GZE ownership. Getting louder, I haven't heard that before. Maybe the bearings are shot? Or the clutch material inside has un-bonded itself and is rattling...hmmm...

Mine started off at low RPM, or if u buzzed the engine at idle loud charger engagement and rattling was evident...

but over the last month i've notice that engagement/rattle noise last from 2k rpm, to 2.5k rpm, now to 3k rpm on some days... the engagement noise could then be heard during lift off between gear changes, and now finally is quiet loud, almost as if the rattling is inside the dash above the heatercore lol.

got 2 exams tomorrow then i'll suss it all out

Mine used to rattle because the splines on the pulley half that connects to the supercharger had worn. I used some of the Loctite metal putty and fixed that sucker(or blower) right up
