    Default Lubing ARP Studs

    Ey all,

Im planning on retorqueing my ARP studs (torqued to 80ft/lbs), the engine has been heat cycled 3 times since changing the HG. I used all the ARP moly lube on installation, and I know that during the retorqueing procedure you have to crack the bolt loose and lube it before tightening it again.

The ARP instructions say that using the MOLY LUBE, I should torque to 80ft/lbs, if I use engine oil it must be 100 and something.

Considering I used all the moly lube on the installation, what other lubrication will be as good? or can I just get away with squirting some oil on it? what do yous rekon?

    Cheers fellas

Just get 'assembly' lube form your local car parts place - should be made by Loctite or similar

a 50/50 mix of castrol LMM grease and engine oil is perfect
Or take a trip to the local engine reco shop and ask if they could spare ARP moly lube sachel. My bet is they would have a shit load of them stocked because they would probably use ARP bolts when replacing rod bolts and torque to yeild head bolts. Most of the time they use there own lube anyway.

If you get super keen with this lube you can buy a jar from ARP for about $40. Will last along time if your not rebuilding engines regularly. For me it lasts a month or two.

There's also one inbetween the jar and satchel. It's some stupid measurement like " 10 Fluid Ounces" i think. Anyway, its about 200mls of the stuff. Can't remember how much it cost me but i got it from Rocket Industries and was definately under $20.
    4agte finally completed. 234rwkw @ 8125rpm. Tis fun

I am guessing the ARP moly lube is nothing more than molybdenum grease which should be available as a Castrol product and probably a heap of other manufacturers too. Should be available in tubs and cartridges.

Well, they do say that it is a specially formulated lube especally designed for their fasteners, but im not sure how much they are pulling our leg on this one. The castrol LMM grease is somewhat similar to it.

Your best bet is definantly the local engine reco place, anywhere that does rod resizing should have a heap of it.
