Sounds like a replacement engine ECU might be the way to go

If you want to replace the capacitors, the following thread (albeit a little dated!), might help...if you're in the USA, then digikey is prbly also worth a look

leaky caps is very common these days
ive seen 3 different 2j non turbo ecus with fkt caps and circuitboard on the same car
took them afew goes to get a good ecu

I also have a 2jzgte twin turbo std ecu which has some tiny signs of caps damage

the later vvti ones I recon u wont find any damaged ecus
but the earlier ones ive come across afew

he hasn't mentioned its a vvti so I recon his ecu needs good going over
I tried to repair the three non turbo 2j ecus but didn't have much luck

replacement caps are easy to find
I buy them in bulk from shops over in the usa

I found new caps and had them soldered in. No luck. ECU still isn't turning on. I suspect the MREL circuit is shot. Will try powering it directly through B and +B and see how that works out.

I got a spare ECU to use for now. It works but it's showing even worse signs of capacitor leakage. Cold driveability is a little better with this ECU but overall it feels slightly down on power and it hits boost cut a lot sooner.

Anyway, I'm going to open both ECU, set them side by side and start testing the components. Maybe that will reveal what's gone wrong with it.

Well I almost can't believe I'm saying this but I fixed it! One of the tracks had blown out in a corner of the circuit board that wasn't very visible. I found it using a really bright flashlight. Bypassed it ghettofabulously with a piece of wire and I gotta say this thing now runs better with the new caps than it ever did previously. Throttle response is a bit better and seems like the cold stumble it had is gone too! Not to mention, the idle is rocksteady and SMOOTH!

Thank you all for your help!

Thumbs up Re: Overfueling issue: injector #6 not closing - FIXED!!

Props to you for staying with the problem until you got it sorted. If my ECU starts playing up, I'll give you a call

Hello everyone, I'm digging this old thread up because there seems to be a residual issue stemming from the problem that was fixed here. Since carrying out the repair, I have noticed that the engine has become very difficult to start only when cold. Somehow, I discovered that pulling the BATT fuse (the one that supplies constant power to the ECU for memory functions) fixes this problem and the engine starts and runs just fine without it. It appears this too is an internal ECU issue. Any suggestions where to begin troubleshooting this?
