cant hear it that well. could just be oil quality/viscosity. try a thinner oil. try a carbon clean.
Hey guys, when ever I start my car cold or after its been sitting for a while I get a rattle on startup for a second or two.
Sounds sorta like this:

Dead stock engine, has an oil filter relocation kit on it, done 200k+.
Sound of the **** dying or something less extreme? Fairly sure its been doing it for a while but I've only just put a quiet exhaust on.
Runs well, pulls pretty good and made 300rwkw/16psi a few months ago.
Oil pressure is good, well over 100psi when cold at 1000rpm

As has been said it's not easy / clear to hear but I would suspect its bearing rattle, seems to be a fairly common thing on highish mileage 1J / 2J motor's ..
Next time you hear the noise keep an eye on the oil pressure light & I think you will find the light goes out about the time the noise stops ..

How's oil warning light? Does it instantly turn off or stays on for a couple seconds?

But I have defi gauges, when I let off the key when the motor fires, they do their test sweep and its straight to 750kpa.
So it has good oil pressure within a second of the motor starting. The oil pump is brand new too, blew the front main a month ago and fitted a new genuine pump then.
I have a Nissan Patrol ute and the light stays on for 5 seconds on cold starts so Toyota are doing something right.
All I can say JZ rattle isn't uncommon in my neck of woods, however it's mostly related to low oil pressure upon startup, this has something to do with worn out oil pump drive and increased clearances between various parts, as a result oil drains to the sump completely if a car is left for a while.
Sometimes the problem is related to using 'wrong' oil filter with less than perfect valve in it.
