Just thought I would follow up for anyone interested....

Over the weekend the TODA ~3.5kg flywheel went into my car with an Xtreme heavy duty clutch There is such an improvement over the 12kg one i had in there!

The thing free revs so quick its not funny, the car starts so much quicker, I guess the starter motor is doing less work to turn the car over, it stops so quickly (I ocassionally get running on when I turn it off, it no longer does this) and best of all, the thing accellerates so much quicker, and especially up hills! Took it for a good drive through the mountains yesterday, and the thing was loving it! A few more mods and she'll be just about ready for hillclimbing.

The thing I couldnt get over the most, is aside from a slightly rattly idle at anything under 1200rpm, the thing is so smooth! I couldnt get over it, its so much nicer to drive than the heavy flywheel.

The heavy duty clutch seems to be doing the job just fine, theres no slipping whatsoever, its not very heavy on the pedal, and not at all difficult to use.

Best of all the thing is so streetable its not funny. Its actually easier and nicer to drive on the street than what was previously in there. Its very comfy! Definately impressed, would recommend to anyone with a similar engine in a similar car (cant vouch for other applications but it works well in this one!)

Well that is just lovely Dana.

Good to see my theories are just that and I do not mind at all being proved wrong about the drivability.

Now about those #125 jets on their way. We may need to have a re-think when you try them as you may find it should be more efficient now and can be jetted up for a bit more power.

    Regards

Wow, it does just what I've been telling people all these years that they do!
(This is why when people on a budget ask what they should add to their engine to make it faster, I say 'lightweight flywheel' and everyone else is saying cams & so on )

i'd just thought i would add that only the 4AGZE in the whole 4AXX family runs a rubber dampner in the crank pully..

    the rest are simply balanced

We had my NA 4AGE pulley wheel off a week or two back whilst at the track and their was definitely a thin rubber layer between the centre and the ribbed outer, I poked it with the screwdriver and it certainly wasn't alloy

I have spoken to them before in regards to custom flywheels, and they're a little pricey (probably no more than any other custom flywheel would be though), but the ones that they produce several of (1UZ, 4A, etc...) are very reasonably priced...

At a guess the big companies like Exedy and TODA would...

Exedy Lightened Flywheels are usually about $550 to $650...

TODA Lightened Flywheels, from what I've seen, are usually about $800 or so...

If you're going to that expense why not get it made for one of the new sachs 86mm quad plate clutches. Weight 950gm.
