rep rewards/loss's

On my user CP all the reps have a little green box to the left and positive comments... except one. It has a grey box to the left and no comment at all. I PM'd the guy to see if it was +ve or -ve , and if -ve, then why? I didn't get a reply.

does the grey box mean neg rep? because without a comment or contact from the "rep-er" i cant tell whether is supposed to be +ve or not.

I had a look at the post it was linked to and i can't see why it would invoke either +ve or -ve rep either.

to ignore the arguement about the worth of rep and to answer the actual question asked

The grey box means that the person repping has not made enough posts/not earned enough rep to be able to give rep themselves, so it is considered a neutral. Before people complain about this... it is done so people cannot just create several accounts and rep themselves without those accounts being active.

Timbo, grey just means the person has no rep power. so the rep could be positive or negative.

and ive seen it out at oran park bnut thought it was the other guy that had the turbo ke70/ae71 and you were just helping with the motor

The rep system seems to carry alot of weight on Toymods so it's unlikely posting complaints in the forum is going to have any effect. I agree that the rep system is flawed for exactly the reason adsport pointed out. Mates +ve rep each other cos they're mates, not cos their input is necessarily especially useful. They also -ve rep people that "annoy" their mates, or as a sign of solidarity against a particular post/thread. Admin can't stop that so in the end, unless you are in the "club", your rep rating can seem disproportionately low compared to the amount of useful info you post.

They may not be able to stop it happening but they can do something about it if it is reported to them.
If you have recieved neg rep for something that is out of line then deal with it and move on. if you recieve it for no good reason or you feel it is unjustified then all it takes is a pm to have it looked into and resolved.
Getting petty about it will get you no where at all.

furthermore, I never said Admin can't change the rep you have, they simply can't stop people giving negative rep or positive for their friends.

Next time, read the post before you formulate an opinion about its merit.

well yes they all tend to turn that way mat when there are immiture people around.

10 points for encouraging unsuitable material via the rep system.. followed by a purple box to positive rep someone has given me (becoming a neutral i think)

I can't comment on the -1 but the admin rep was a -10 hit. No need to "out" the other Forum member but a certain thread was locked and its creator warned and neg repped for it after which you gave him +ve rep with this comment: "they should have a thread for misc things like this, was gold anyway so here's ur rep back. cheers~"

Basically encouraging people to post inapropriate material can have a down side Probably a tough lesson to learn but you were not the only one and we do modderate all area's of the forums, Including the rep system.

ok at 10 reputation points i have 1 reputation power......so at what level do i get 2 repuatation power? and so forth

and what about negative reputation points....what happens then....whats the lowest you can get down to before you are kicked out of the fomurms and such.

I know you get +2 rep power at 100 rep points or 250 posts (car related and technical)
