I agree, to really give some good advice we need to see what you've got!
Maybe throw up some cad sketches or something and people can critique them?
I can't say I can see how it will work, but like Chuck said, you need to build this to please yourself. Besides, almost everything seen until now is a variation on flares only (I've never seen a wide-body effort, so some googling to do now).
The car Stolic posted looks very natural except the sill flares (IMO) straight lines I think would be better there.
I'd love to see your planning notes and any real world progress. Start your build thread now with pics of the car as is. Now go and do my bidding!!!

The Smurf: A 1972 TA22 with a 2TGEU, individual throttle bodies and a bad attitude.
Im guessing you're more after this sort of style? (red Camaro about half way down, at work so cant post pic )

As an idea, there are halfway decent models on ebay etc for $60ish. I used one when deciding on paint colour, but one of those with some body filler enhancements could help you with your design perhaps?
Yeah the red camaro is along the lines of what im doing, wouldn't go that big because that just looks like a hot wheels car proportion-wise.
Still can't upload photos really keen to as i got bored and a little tipsy last night so the front gaurds are reshaped in steel and tacked in place will do the rears over the weekend.
Sorry i cant upload pics in not really a computer person much more grinder and welder kinda guy
Did fronts first because i have spares and now i am very confident of the technique i used will work
Old beater myself & done a few rears on utes by cutting inner + under sill & drill spot welds at rear bottom of quarter panel.
Then get in with porta power & push the whole arch out bit by bit to where you want it. Beware that they pull a bit on the bottom corner of the door close & you will need to correct that. Then weld in a strip under arch & a coupla darts front & back, job's right.
This way there is no big filler job on the lip because if you do it right the lip stays the same.
People look at these & know there is something different but not knowing just what until they see it alongside a standard one.
O.
Thanks alot low lux that's really helpful i had my suspicions that my be the case as when I've done the fronts the lip has pulled inwards towards the nose of the car to get around that i think i will chop the front valance and widen that also. To push the lip of the guard flat.
IM real happy with the front guards, total of about 45mm over standard and maintained all the cars lines with an extra bit of beefiness.
Stolic!
That '22 I love. Can we get more info? For me it is the best I have seen of a fusion of modern and Old School and you are right, without the wing and front splitter it would be wrong. Most of the time all I see are too fat and too big diameter modern wheels placed under flares or standard guards, but in this case the wheels are just right.
I just came back from NZ, is that at Lake Taupo Motorsport Park?

TBH I know fuck all about that car, other than I love itI just happened upon it a few yrs back when doing the old google image ta22 search.
But I do remember seeing it pop up in a build thread somewhere.. might have been one of Sheepers threads on here even (not his car but he may have met up with the owner and taken some snaps or something)
Judging by the front bumper sticker its been raced in the GTRNZ series, but I couldn't say when or if it still does.
I'll have a hunt around and see what I can find

Sorry its been a while but i have been working on the car so not a complete loss...
Here is the process i ended up using. This link shows the left rear guard start to tacked into shape
I later welded in filler panels but that time lapse was boring as shit. And i don't have any video of me welding the inner guard patches in as it was painful and time consuming.
My vote is don't mess with the shape, it's a classic. Having said that I don't mind flares like on Fonys celica, however it needs to be with the right wheel set up. I definitely wouldn't have anything molded to the body of my TA22...
To me, making too big a change devalues the point of having a TA22, you may as well buy something more modern to start with.
That's understandable all be it a little late for my car. I am keeping alot of the identifying swage lines of the car just adding 100mm to the overall width in the rear so far its looking like the kind of modification that will be unnoticed by most people only owners/experts of ta22's will pick up on unless it was parked side by side with a stock one. Thanks for your point of view none the less.
Like the way youve done that do u have some pics
