It sounds like a gurgle from the front of the motor. Hard to pinpoint. It's the kind of sound one would expect if coolant had air pockets in it.

Did you bleed it with your heater on? I found that my RA60/1JZ takes a long time to bleed, and running the heater help speed that process up.

Sure did. I'm going try a couple of things tomorrow. It may not even be coolant but I don't recall hearing it when the car was previously running.

Mine (2JZ) does the same when you first turn it off, might be air dunno
If I pinch the front hose it stops

    hi guys,

Well the 2j with the factory computer failed - but when we put the sm4 on it, it told us there was an issue with the tps, which we then replaced with mine off my 1j - but the autronic was already on.
If i were you, i would get a hold of a late model commodore cat that has been taken out - the one i have at home (from dads car) only did like 5000km... and try it on the factory computer.

My dad, my mate and my cousin all have commented on how good the guys are at the 2 im240 testing locations. there is no penalty for failing, and no charge. For us it is the hassle of going to sydney to fail, and considering the 5 gas is HEAPS easier to pass than the im240, i wouldnt care about paying, seeing as my car would be getting an emissions tune anyway.dads car had no issues on the 5 gas - we were checking it on that before taking it down.

As for your gurgle.... dads carbon canister used to gurgle when the motor was switched off.

And my diff - well, it is a volvo diff, it destroyed the crown wheel and pinion. I am making 533rwhp though.... and i did a 3rd gear burnoutout at wsid (no probs) but the 7000rpm launch on my mickey thompsons was too much. and the top fuelers had raced 3 days earlier, so the track was fully prepped and super sticky.

    Cheers

So you smashed a volvo diff hey. Doesn't surprise me with that kind of launch though! Are you going to keep using the volvo diff?

I didn't realise the 5 gas test was much easier to pass. Good to know. So you obviously have somewhere up there where you can do it? How much did it cost?

I took a vid of the celica

Hard to hear the gurgle I'm referring to. Ignore the ticking sound. That's something with the stock blow off valve..meh

Don't know about the ticking noise, the only other noise I heard was mainly under the car when you had the camera there was sounding like the engine oil hitting the crankshaft due to the angle you had the car jacked up on & they will all do it, drop the car off the stands or jack up the back of the car whilst it is running if you want & that noise will stop, not sure if its your gurgling sound though that you hear but I'm guessing it is ..

there are no signs of easier treatment for my car... things only get harder for it from here... so it will receive a serious 9 inch in the near future.

as for the cost - no idea... the guy doing dads tuning had one... just part of the tuning - no extra as such...

Hmmm I might have to look into that then as it may be easier to just put the car on a dyno, get a power readout and do the test in one go.

The Celica went for it's first drive today to the weigh bridge. Came in at 1129kg. I honestly expected another 100kg on top of that.

Stew - On another note how hot did your 1j get in the celica when you were on boost for an extended period of time?

Quick question. I've got a 76 TA23 with a 2T-G(T)E and a Haltech PS1000. Will i need to run a cat? will that also mean i should only have to pass 1976~ emissions.

that's interesting yours is lighter than mine....

mine stripped out - no stereo, spare wheel, or passenger seat went 1197 at the weighbridge at the drags.
I do have a cage, and massive front brakes.... but no under dash stuff at all.... it was full of fuel too.

As for getting hot... yeah mine does... we think the electric water pump is flowing too fast..

RAAAH23 - It will depend on your engineer. I'm not really across the situation with older motors and emissions standards from the 70's. Maybe someone else can chip in though.

Toy77 - How hot is hot? I had mine up to 95 yesterday while driving in 2nd gear at 60km/h for two km's. It made me a little concerned about getting it on the track where it'd see constant 5k+ rpm levels. I'm running a JAR radiator and am considering whether or not to get something triple pass custom made.

That surprises me with the weight as I have a full interior including all the gear under the dash, half a tank of fuel and I'm running R33 GTST brakes. The R154 over the W58 would make a slight difference as well. I'm keen to see what my weight distribution is now!

Hey Toy77 that's bullshit the things you had to do to pass your test, in Vic you would not be allowed to run an "adjustable" computer in a car as late as a Cressida, would have to be factory ECU only ..

Crazy how each State seems to do their own thing ..

And to add to what has been said make sure the Cat is up to Temp before you do the test & I would think if you are in doubt as to wether your cat would pass I would change it out as they most likely charge each time to do a test & I'm sure it's not cheap ..
From what ive been told, see and done. In vic you cant put an older engine in a newer car unless on lpg. you can put a newer engine in a older car but the engine must have all emmision componants from the car it was removed from. As long as the engine is unmoddified it only needs to pass basic noise tests.

Every engineer seems to tell a different story though!
