Random burnt wire

Hey guys.

The other day I tried to start up my AW11 and a wire burnt out.

It's the bottom right hand corner with the yellow cap.

This is the new wire that the mech has put in and it is now chared which tells me that the problem is still there.

Have any of you seen this before?

Also the timing is now out when I accelerate quickly.
While it is idling there is not problem.

Thoughts?

Appears to be a ground wire. There should be another one
(I guess... not an AW guy) close by the starter. If that new
one is the only one, and it is not making a good contact with
the chassis, it could get hot. Check it after cranking, and
see if that end gets hot ?

As has been said it looks like a ground wire, If that's the only earth wire on the motor its definitely not Big / thick enough, check around to see if you can see a big earth wire some where else on the motor, should be one bolted to the block which might have come loose, it will go from the motor to the chassis or the Negative terminal on the battery depending on where the battery is located . ...

Why did the mechanic put it in for ... what did he say ... what problem was/is there ??

It looks like you need to check the ground on the gearbox and head of the motor. They are the two main grounding points for the loom and stater circuit. It looks like the starter one isn't grounding properly (Corroded?) and has found that little ground wire as a low path as resistances, which has lead to it melting.

which will blow the ass out of all your fine electrics if thats the issue. Just like picking a Big power feed to an amp from the battery, and then running a Big earth back to the chassis, if theres nothing to complete the earth from chassis back to battery if chases every avenue it can find.
Im hoping that is not what has stuffed up your timing!
