there is alot of ignition control
but not many out there which can read the crank/cam signals in

like the others said to do it properly u might have to spend about 1000 or more

so if thats what u have to do u might as well run injectors aswell

u are tryin to do half the job so thats y its goin to be hard

another thing is if speedway guys run that type of setup well money is not really an option to them

sit down and see if goin efi is viable

it will be much nice and easier to do and will only cost u a bit more

and will be much much easier to tune and if u want to go for more hp down the track u have the adjustable ecu and will be easy to do

ive always been one to spend money and get it done right and easy

i remember reading somehting about grinding the teeth off the wheel so there is only 1 using a sensor then using a boxotrix to convert the 2 signals into one square sine ... the camira modules were scraped and corvette ls1's were used.. might want to do a bit of a search on "1uzfe+delco" or something as this motor was using a delco and they only accept a single signal. hope this is a bit o help, might want to find a bright sparky to help you out there mate.

i'll try and find out again as im in the process of a hz 1uz! not quite at this stage yet.

fwiw, the NZ 1UZ+Lancer went back to EFI:
That PROTEK ignition system was shit so I scapped the whole carby set up and gone back to EFI(bugga, the carb and scoop looked gooooood). I have put a LINK LEM V5 into it and I have just picked it up from the dyno with a MASSIVE 268 Hp @ wheels.

I don't have the inlet manifold and injection system or the pump and rails so decided to run it on gas. I know I can build a plenum and runners and set the gas up lots cheaper than running injection. I have a mate setting the gas stuff up for nothing. I only have to get the parts and secondhand gas stuff is cheap.Plus with the cost of fuel I think gas looks like a good option. I will keep looking into ignition only setups. I cannot see that it would be too hard to graft a donor V8 distributor in place of the 1UZ setup. I know Cruzuda said it looks ugly but I am thinking it could be done. Dave

it mabe worth just saving for a ECU and just using the ign side of it !

you can pick up second hand ecus fairly cheap.

I think you are on the money with the gas think and petrol prices ! esp with a V8

just out of interest what is the avg petrol price in tassie ???

well if they graft on 2 x 4cyl camira dizzies and modify them then surely you'd have to be able to do the same with 2 x electronic dizzies for this purpose?

Sure you could, just getting timing consistant between them might be interesting. If you were going to do such a thing, why not just graft a single 8 cylinder dizzy on. Thing is, I wouldn't personally bother - I've seen second hand ECU's go for a few hundred dollars (keep an eye on EBAY etc. for a few weeks), and that way you can keep the standard dizzy's under the covers, or else fit up 4 or 8 coils. The Delco thing might be worth looking into provided you can get the bits for next to nothing, and can get friendly with someone who's got Kalmaker and isn't going to charge you too much to set it up.

Fuel in Tassie is $1.50 litre. Gas is in the mid 60's. We pay more for gas than most places but still cheaper than petrol. MSD is worth a look. I will go and see. Dave

Try the MSD catalogue, although I suspect you may only find rather expensive and very old-school stuff, like 'timing computers' that you adjust with a screwdriver! Yick! Think MSD 6A vs. Motec CDI8 (I know you're not looking for CDI modules, but just as an example of old school stuff vs. something a little more recent)

MSD do have a unit that is capable of talking to the sensors and the 2 dizzy's.

Whether or not you can use this for stand alone ignition control, I don't know.

or you can convert it to crank trigger wheel. very simple and MSD do them but most decent aftermarket ECU companies should be able to set you up with a laser cut Trigger wheel.
then just blank off the dizzy hole. ive never had a problem with dizzyless setups, just take the time to set it up properly and make sure the sensor mount dosnt flex or vibrate.
