actually they all have minimun standards of 102 octane.
is there a difference in the fuels that makes lpg only the equivalent of 92 octane petrol ?![]()
Actually LPG in the city has been the equivillent of about 92 octane for some years nowOriginally Posted by GTtwin

92 RON or MON?
The 'quality' of the fuel usually depends on how much propane (good, sausage fuel) and butane (bad, lighter fuel) it contains.

You are also allot more limited in how big a cam you can run (Compared to Petrol) and how much compression you can get away with (Compared to a country blend LPG).
As a rule of thumb you also use twice as much LPG as petrol to cover the same distance so keep that in mind when deciding how cheap it is to runOh and rumour has it LPG will be taxed like petrol by the end ofthe year. Not sure how true that is tho.

To illistrate this further take a look around the web and try find an actuall RON/MON whatever rating for LPG. Chances are you won't find one. Yes the Octane rating of LPG is higher than petrol BUT because of the inconsistances with the Blend its performance an be quite varied and of course being a "dry" fuel its allot harder on the engine.Originally Posted by mrshin
Heres an extract from the MSDS for the Caltex LPG (VitalGas). The MSDS is a legal document and governement regulated so they have to be accurate. Take a good long look at just how big a variance you can expect in your LPG:
2. COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ingredients Name CAS Proportion Hazard R Phrase
Propane 68477-94-1 0-100 %
Butane 106-97-8 0-60 %
Propylene 115-07-1 0-40 %
Butylene 106-98-9 0-10 %
Ethyl Mercaptan (Odourant) 75-08-1 0-0.01 %
Yep thats a 0 - 60% proportion of Butane !!!!

agreed 110%. the trouble is it isnt regulated{or consistant} like the pulps, and even the pulps is a bit and miss at times at times as we have all had pulp that has pinged, when it shouldnt.
Gas is great but i wouldnt be using it in a performance engine unless you are way under its limit with timing and comp.

yes, lpg will make the same power as a good petrol tune
you can get away with more compression with any form of lpg than you can with petrol, due itsgreater detonation resistance, and also slower burn rate
i disagree with the 100% more lpg in comparison to fuel, its closer to 30% in real world situations.
yes, lpg will be taxed at some stage and this tax will gradually increase, but the government has stated it will never be greater than 11c/L
realistically, LPG is only good if you pick up a car already converted to LPG
OR
if you do an engine conversion and need to meet emision standards
AND
usually when you do an engine conversion you have more power on tap, so running lpg, you end up getting similar if not better economy than you were, simply because you have more power so spend less time at WOT
IMO anyway![]()

I think MAYBE one reason people arnt using gas is because the big jap tuners in japan dont use it, and since they are big companies making mass amounts of performance products and only use 110octane fuel.. I mean look at all the 1000hp gtr's ect. Personaly gas would be cool i think, just needs to be 100%. I do remember reading an article in HPI magazine about high horse power car on lpg, from memory it was pushing 400hp+ at the wheels so i guess it cant be all that bad. Any aussie tuners reading this thread ? Love to hear a work shops opinion!!
Wes.
Bitch, come over here and have sex with Charlie Murphy..
Im Rick James bitch!
dont mean to be rude but aftermarket wise we are as good as if not better than the japanese thank you!lol motec, autronic. and i dont think i have ever seen a serious tuner in OZ ever do anything they have learnt from japanese or anyone!
drift guys might, but the rest dont. lol
I got agree with mick on that one, you really do get sick of guys just copying the japs cause they thing the japs have all the answers... most of the "custom" work is up the shit but its jap so its cool haha
