Buy a used box from a wrecker, fit a shimmed valve body, fit a cooler and service it every 10,000km and you should get a lot of km's out of it for a fair bit cheaper than rebuilding your rooted box.
Hi, I have 93 hilux 2wd that I converted to 1UZ& A341-E. It's been a good reliable ute but yesterday lost all drive in the auto. I removed the filter and found it was clogged with brown clutch debrisso my question is has anybody done a rebuild on this trans and if so where is the best place to get a rebuild kit? Seems you can get a kit without the steels in the clutches, just frictions. It's the forward drive clutch that has shit in my trans which is quite common apparently. The fluid has always been a nice red colour and has no burnt smell at all, the clutch material in the filter is also unburnt. There was a noise in the trans for quite a while, like a scraping bearing type noise that came and went at times but it never bothered the operation so I was waiting for it to develope, it developed yesterday by leaving me stuck on the hwy with no drive haha. So I'm going to have a go at rebuilding this trans but don't know where to shop, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks MICK.

Yeah I know what yr saying but, they are getting long in the tooth now so chances are I may get one thats well on its way to being rooted. Ive rebuilt a few autos before so I think for the cost of a master kit I will end up with a good unit, my work has provided me with a ute so I can take my time and do it properly. I have a 2800converter in there atm and will going back to standard if you know anyone interested![]()

Hey Madmont, I have an A340-E manual which seems pretty much the same as my A341-E, how big is your manual? Maybe there is a difference I dont know.
You dont have a standard converter do ya? I had a 2800stall in it for when I was gunna upgrade the cams, except that never happened haha, its done less than 80.000ks if you know anyone interested.
