If the diff you are running is a hilux diff then it would be a G series diff which is very strong so you don't need to replace the diff all together. If it has not been shortened then it is likely a RN20/25 diff that is the right length for early celicas.
To put a LSD into it you need to decide what type of LSD you are after and then go find LSD accordingly. You can either get a locker centre, a torsion centre or an clutch pack centre. There are differences between each so you will need to look into the pros and cons of each and decide what suits your driving style and pocket the best.
A cheap option is a Tru Trac centre as for sale here for $350 (not my sale thread). This is a torsion LSD
Once you have the LSD you will need to take the centre out of your current diff and take it down with the LSD to your local trusted diff shop and tell them to fit the LSD to the diff centre. To get the centre out of your current diff you will need to remove the axles partly (means taking brakes off etc) and undo the tailshaft. If this sounds like too much effort then just drive the car and the LSD to the diff guys and drop it all off and say make it work.
The ratio of your diff does not affect whether or not you are installing a LSD. If you are happy with how it drives then don't change the diff ratio.
