how much oil is needed to fill a 1JZ

Shane - what sump is on your 1J?

Mine (which has JZX90 front sump on it) only took about 4.9L with filter

I'm starting to get suspicious that front sumps may have slightly less capacity than rear/mid sumps - but I can't find any info about it.

Any thoughts?

I put 5L when changing filter into my jza70 and my bro's jzz30 perfect fill.

Ok - looks like I can forget the theory about differences between front & mid/rear sump capacity.

I just put 5L of 10-30 mobil 1 in mine, and a new 'purolator' oil filter, (they are on sale at uber cheap) and i liked the heavier wall construction.. and of course the old guy in days of thunder wore the hat.. so $92 later, i have new oil etc, after having to do it because i had to mod my engine mounts..
