Penrite do an oil specifically for run-in purposes. As for the actual run-in procedure; do what your engine builder tells you to do...
This might be the right place to hijack the thread, a little, and ask an oil related question. Newish at all this, if I've contravened etiquette just let me know.
Rebuilding a 4A Redtop, going back together next week, yee-hah! What oils are good for the running in period, how often should I change it to start with and then regularly. Given the moolah I've dropped on the car so far I'm not overly concerned about spending a few dollars on oil and oil filters. Same thing with T50 box and R160 Diff.
I'd like to run it out of the car initially, the body will be, a "panel beater's project", not important to him, just dragged out and done bit by bit when they have time and space. Nice thing is it will give me lots of time to "bed" the engine in without any stress at all, other than all the bits whirring round inside of course. Any suggestions for getting a "test-bench run-in" done properly for my 4A???
Cheers.

Castrol GTX or any other mineral oil is the go
Confirm oil pressure, warm it up and drive it with a heavy foot, its either going to work or its not.
Most 20v's had a hard life in Japan, they are hard on the oil to begin with and unless it had more often than specified servicing expect there to be some half decent varnish, sludge along with rooted valve stems.

Ill just leave this hereenjoy!
we normally use any reputable 10w40 like shell or valvoline . Most 20v have pretty high mileage on them so I would stay away from a 30 oils .
