    ok, i have confirmation:
    3sge/3sgte cam wheels = 1ggte/1ggze/1ggpe/1gge cam wheels
how do i know i hear you say, i downloaded an EPC and checked
downloaded one yesterday (1gig and turns out it didnt have any jdm engines in it  )
so spend 2 hrs googling, and download a 1.55 gig one and check
    all for yoooo
    hehe, enjoy giving me rep

I spotted this as well on one site for MR2's and both the 3sgte and
1ggte had the same part number for Blitz cam gears (http://www.mr2.com/Blitz.html). This was an old site. So does this mean if u buy say HKS adjustable gears for a 3S-GTE they'll fit a 1G. Hmmm. At the risk of sounding dumb how much benefit would you get out of adjustable cam gears on the standard cams. I know they are great together with aftermarket cams but how about on their own. Could you get say i.e. better midrange...? Anyone know if its a worth while mod?

Yeah but I am saying std.ecu with a piggy back say a SAFC2 and adj. cam gears...what could you hope to gain. I know you won't get overall more power or will you? Having troubles fully understanding it... Can you just manipulate the power band i.e. more midrange less top end or more bottom end and less midrange/top end. Someone pls explain the gain of putting on adj. cam gears on a 1g with above.

i've been told the 1GGE cams give performance gain with stock ecu, stock gears... but problem i see is that the 1GGE cams have greater overlap... with adj gears and the 1GGE cams, you could tune out the overlap.. and have the higher lift and duration, providing you didn't overlap with the compression stroke...

    just my thought...

Now that would make sense...changing to NA cams would give you more lift and yes you could get rid of some of the overlap with the adj. cam gears...but like you said you have to make sure you know what was duration, and most importantly the overlap for the NA 1GGE cam. Too much Overlap is beneficial in NA but not for Force induction.... It's a interesting theory but. Still that don't answer the original question...is there any benefits to adj. cam gears on their own...without a cam change...I have read elsewhere you could pick up a maximum of about 10rwkw but this was on a 2jz/1jz motors. Anyone else know???? 10rwkw for about 300+ buck is not too bad if it can be achived.

Found and interesting explanation of benefits of adj. cam gears on their own here with dyno chart:

yeah, my understanding is that you can gain SOME horsepower, but maily the idea is to move the power to where you want it best... altough, ecconomy comes into it too...

IMO, with the NA cams, cam over lap (inlet and outlet) could be tuned out with gears, but overlap with the compression stroke would have to be fixed by re-grinding the cams... i'm awaiting a estimate from Ivan Tighe for this...
