As far as I am aware, the 1G-GE cams have about 0.2mm more lift than the GTE cams and there is the overlap thing as well (this is all well out of my teritory in regards to Cam timing)
if you look closely at the factory cams you will see that they are adjustable buy Approx. 3 degrees each way. but placing them on different locating pins.
Prolly no where near as good as the adjustable flavour but possibly helpful.

) and i found an "indepth" 4 page article on adjustable cams! out of the whole thing i managed to get "remember this isn't a gospel guide", "don't by cheap ones" and "just take it for a quick run on the dyno, see how it goes" BUT anyways... i also managed to extract some useful (and possibly correct) information, they said that many manufacturers have retarded (-ve) cam timing, this is due to the reasonably restrictive exhaust system, this way they reduce the amount of gas that gets drawn back into the chamber through the exhaust valve... so if you've got an aftermarket exhaust, then you should pick up a few ponies by advancing the exhaust cam,
