Default Toyota ZZ series engines north-south RWD

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to search for things with less than 4 letters...

Looking for a solution to north-south RWD gearbox for a 1ZZ/2ZZ...I'm sure it's been done, but buggered if I can find any info!

You can try and make your own like I did a few years ago, in this case a 1ZZ to a J160

Of course: the idea is still thriving! It does look like a blacktop/silvertop would be MUCH easier, bang for buck, and leave sufficient room for a ZZ swap down the track...

Problem with the 3SGE is the height: they're very tall, and the sumps hang down quite low, so they become a problem. Plus they're a heavy engine for a 2L!

Not enough revs Don't want a torque monster!

At this stage it's looking like I might just go for a blacktop 20v for the mean time, and make sure I leave enough room in the frame for a ZZ if I decide to go that way later...

there is not a lot of difference between the 4A and the 2ZZ in terms of size.
the 2ZZ is a taller head to deal with the rockers for the valve lift system but the length and width of the engines are pretty close.

also worth checking out these threads if you already haven't
