B&M Quick shifts are Ratchet type up and down... Changes gears by moving the handle up or down like a sequential gearbox but oviously there is mechanisms that moves it from park etc... This is from what I have seen and heard...
Cheers.
Ok, Ive read Sean's (MS-75) awesome writeup on manualised autos and got a few tips from Shane (1JZ747) and mrshin, but what I still dont understand (being a noob to modified autos and having just bought a all singing MV autos job) is exactly how an aftermarket shifter like a B&M will work with it. From what I can find out from seaching, all the usual gears are accessed in the normal fashion via a selector and the box is left in Drive when in use.
Therefore my question is, if the box is in drive all the time how does the quick shifter change gears when you hit it? Is it an electrical thing actuated by interfacing with the little black shift box I got with the gearbox or something else?
Cheers

Can't afford it?... Don't buy/drive it...

Well thats what I assumed too but then how does reverse and park work? And whats the function of the shift box?Originally Posted by ZZT231
Edit - I know that the shift box replaces the ECT, but whats the advantage of having the MV autos one over a stocker?

It's different apparently... Have to harrash a mate with is one to see how it work.Originally Posted by whatthe?
But from seeing it from memory, there are levers that you hold to engage park & reverse so you can't accidenlty shift it whilst in drive into the wrong gear...

There's different types of those shifters - some have another little lever for reverse, park, etc., others use different things. To make your 340 shift through all gears properly though, you still need to power up the solonoids otherwise it will shift 1st, 3rd, 4th. I would say come over I'll show you, but it's a bit of a drive![]()
Tis cool, I think I got it now. Ratchet shifter has (obviously) a ratcheting action to change up and down whilst remaining centred, and a little pull up handle under the top of the shifter handle to allow access to neutral, reverse and park. Correct?Originally Posted by mrshin

Yeah you've got the idea. Some also have a completely separate little lever for the job, but the same idea applies.
