Sorry Phil, but if you've seen the technical availability on any Hyundai forum, you'll know why I ask here

yes. Put another alternator on this arvo (that doesn't quite fit properly, but fixable) & charging dropped to 14.5V.
Still idling high though. Changed map sensor & TPS, but no change. Going to source another idle motor & swap ECU (got 2 spare ones).

Still waiting for TRDee to tell me where he lives so I can pick up the spacers. Hurry up slacker!

I spoke with Garth late today, he has a set organized thru his local, um a little cheaper than that shit hot net price, but fitted and balanced and no freight. I offered him my cost, which worked out just under 40 per tyre than mentioned above, but then you have to fit - most tyre shops will charge you 25 each if you bring your own tyres. I am in business, but I am willing to help you guys out when I can.

I struggle with pricing on some tyres, yes I buy from the kebab shop in syd (the other one st George tyres). Have bought kumho v70a and Toyo r888, way cheaper than Toyo or kumho would give me. Federals I do alright on, and I could beat any of those prices. If you have a way of fitting ( you know someone - or someone that won't charge too much) and you are willing to pick up I can help you guys out.

Sometimes you just have to pay, $460 per tyre then $120 I think to have them pre stressed (zapped). Hopefully this set of tyres will be just sprints and last a couple of years and the wife won't realize.
So I'm not allowed to put up a link for a company where I had a good experience in a couple of days?? When I last bought RSR's these guys were way cheaper than anyone else around here and even Sydney when I called around, in some instances, I was being quoted like $250-260 per tyre which was ridiculous even in Canberra. Pretty sure it was a case of "We don't stock those, wonder if he'll pay some ridiculous price for our trouble?"

I paid $160 a tyre (which was not the advetised price), because I picked up the phone and said "Hey, what's the best price on these". They sent them from QLD for $10 per tyre from QLD to Canberra (which I thought was pretty reasonable) and I got them in a couple days.

GT, glad to hear you got your tyres sorted out, I'll make sure I send PM's next time not to be acosted by the Tyre Nazi in future....

Vito, glad to hear you're ol' man is ok, hope he's up and about again soon

Hey boys, all good - Phil (tir33d) is not having a go he's just looking out for us and as you can see from a couple of other comments you might not get the best deal around from them. That being said, i have got a couple of sets of RS-Rs from them, delivered to wherever suits me for cheaper than i could find anywhere else. Reason i now go elsewhere is because one time (doing my usual last minute thing) QLD distributor was out of stock and getting them sent from ACT -> QLD -> me was going to take too long (i asked, there's state-based distributor politics and logistics). Rang the local guy and told him the price i'd been quoted and he matched it, so now i use him. I don't harrass him on the price quite as much these days though and i like to give the guy doing the work a little cashflow to help make it worth his while and take a little care.

I will definitely be asking Phil next time and figuring out delivery and fitting in advance, that price was pretty good.

Drifty - i meant it sounded like you were trying to re-use the fluid by swapping it over too.

Steve - you replaced your alternator and charging DROPPED to 14.5v? What was it showing before??

Vito/Phil - are the V70a's that good? I've heard mixed opinions - and what sort of price are we talking? Although, i think i've done this before and, like R888s and anything else interesting, don't come in my size.

love my v70as. some people like em some dont. they are a bit more temp sensitive than other semis from what ive found, just like the KU36es, must be a kumho thing. But get them in their happy place and they stick like shit to a blanket.

they do make them in 16" as dylan (mr22zz) had a set on his adub.. not sure on price tho

end of the day, whatever rcomps you get will get you in the ballpark, pace wise. as phil says, we are not chasing thousandths of a second, so just get whatever semi you can get that is available in your size for a reasonable price.

After running RS-R's for a while now on the street, while they're alright the KU36's are a way nicer tyre.
The RS-R's have very rounded shoulders compared to the square ones of the KU36's.
Either this and/or also more flexible sidewalls has caught me out a few times since I've had them on.
Scared the crap out of myself on a medium speed bend that I drive everyday, bit of lift off, sliding sideways at 100k.
There are things I simply cannot do anymore with the RSRs that I never had a problem with before.
Realise RSRs are Toymods favourite tyre, not trying to stir things up, just my experience.
Maybe RSRs not their best on a street car?

Link for you Garth... sure you know it but in your size set of softs bit dearer than the equivalent size R888's

So about $100/tyre more than the RS-Rs.

I've only ever thought of them as cheap R-comps, and more of a track capable street tyre than a true track tyre - maybe that's why i haven't been disappointed, actually they have impressed me for what punishment they've been able to take. At first i wasn't that impressed, but since i've spent time getting pressures right with them i've found they need to be right on and then can take a solid caning. They definitely get too hot when it's sliding around too much but they also get loose when the pressures aren't right. Maybe that's more so my car than the tyres, and me being very in tune with my car after years of running the same setup, so all i have left to tweak is the pressures, but i really notice when they're not right.

Might be time for something different soon i think.

RS-Rs are cheap S-comps. not cheap R-comps. equivalent to an R1-R or KU36.

V70A is an R-comp, like R888 or FZ-201 respectively, using toyo and federal for reference again. completely different performance level to an RS-R or equiv

ive never paid for new V70As. ive always seemed to luck out on a used set for minimal $$$
