I'll pull the caps off to have a look.

The heads look quite dry, but the engine hasn't turned under it's own power (or any power for that matter) in months and months, so it's probably valid that it's dry?

The filter will get checked I think!

The grade of oil was from what I remember, fully synthetic 5W-30 I think. Penrite I think it was. I'll pull one of the caps off to have a look. I'm going to pull the motor down anyway so we'll see something interesting there!

Hi,

did you look at the lobes on the cams prior to having this issue? Ie when you first go the engine? There's every chance in the probable 200k that the engine had previously done some damage may have been done to it. I would be thinking baffle the oil pickup, get an oil cooler and go from there. Have you done a compression test on it? Might be getting blow-by and hence the oil might collection a bit more shit than it should be.
