    Default 1jz + gt3071 + auto

    Howdy guys,

Ever since getting caught up on power and spending countless $$$ upgrading to a single on my auto 1jz latley ive been thinking about how i miss the original twins setup. I used to really enjoy driving the car around town but now its foot down a touch of spool and then rockets or else it feels abit lifeless. Maybe im getting old but Im actually considering selling the single setup and going back to the twins as it feels much more drivable. Am i going crazy or can anyone relate to how i feel. I know i could put some more money into the auto, get it shift kitted, stally etc but to be honest its not a drag car i just want a nice car around town with instant response on tap. Ive been researching and im reading the gt3071 is most likely the closest single turbo that has same drivability to the twins. So instead of selling my setup maybe i can just downgrade my turbo

Supporting mods to my car besides the factory auto is fmic, 6boost man, 440 inj, emanage ult, 44mm ext gate, exhaust etc. Now i know someone might suggest smaller rear housing etc but ive tried the smallest .63 housing and still isnt the same as the twins..

Just want to hear it first hand from anyone who has this exact same setup or someone who has driven this setup with the auto

    Guessing you're running something like a GT3582R w/0.86 t.Hsg at the moment?

Have you 'tuned' the ignition timing at all on the eManage Ult to get a bit more 'off boost' torque?

Yep had the gt3582r then had tried the gt3082r as well. Also tried smallest rear housing. Got it tuned at two diff places as well. All in all was similar outcome down low but obviously mid to top range was diff on diff turbos. I'm thinking now it's just the auto and single setup.

Can explain to me how will the bigger converter make the car drive as a daily.

Why would you get a Supra just for manual....

Cressie with 1j is 51/49 weight dist.

Go 28/35 will spool very quick give you decent power. 3071 is fine to a bit bigger not by much will give you a bit more power. it is all up to you and how much power you want in the end.

You should try a bigger converter, I had one in my old supra and because it was still 'loose' and had lockup, so for its daily duties was perfectly civilized. Contact MV automatics and have a chat.

    Either that or a manual

Interesting..I would be happy with 260 atw . That's plenty of power for me but its about power delivery and for it to work together nicely with the auto. I just want to have the power delivered in a nice way.

At the moment it's like foot down, spool...the auto downshifts then takes off like a bullet. Does that make sense

Got a shift kit? Makes a big difference, its more like foot down - SMASH downshift and WHOOOOOOSH

Haha i don't have a shift kit but I wasnt sure if it would help my issue therefore didn't want to fork out the extra for no reason. I know I needed to do more research first.

I wouldn't want to run those sorts of mods (turbo etc) on a stock A340, I know mine was getting quite hot before I added a cooler. I got a PWR cooler from MV when I ordered everything else, was pretty cheap and quite large.

Yep a large trans cooler already done. Sorry should of mentioned that earlier. Just had a chat to gcg regarding the above and the guy recommends for my application a gtx3071r with .63 rear housing.

Should be good, but definitely grab a shift kit and hi-stall, best thing I did to my car.

    Hi mole,
Do you mind sharing your experiences with the shift kit and hi stall? I'm really curious on the before and after outcomes.

    Thanks buddy
