Was drip feeding it by the filter location on the Gen 2 (now has an oil cooler adapter)

Craig, I am in Blayney, near Bathurst.

Would really love to avoid pulling it out, for obvious reasons...

Bugger bit far for me to drive.

Have you tried the compressed air that i told you about before? I had to do that one on the last motor i did.

Take spark plugs out, take oil filter off, crank over engine to see if oil is being pumped to filter and see which way the oil the oil will flow through filter as oil filters fitted with an anti flowback valve will only flow one way,and could cause these symptoms if the filter adapter is flowing the wrong way.

    Hi,

silly q - but did you bench test the oil pump before you put it back in? Anything you pull apart like that should be tested before re-installed......

whoa! how do you build a motor without a compressor? i stop for the night when the air runs out and its too late to wake the neighbors by firing it back up! compressor basically runs flat out when engine building...

    any luck with this yet?

^^ Why would you use air tools when everything has to be torqued?

    Hi,

air tools are handy for dismantling but i'd never use one for reassembly.

Found the problem, some idiot (me) put the head gasket in back to front and blocked the oil passage to the head...

Got oil down the bottom, nothing up the top...

    fuck

Ah shit! I had a feeling there was something majorly askew.

I'm surprised it didn't build up pressure if it was blocked, or was the oil draining back to sump?

Are you replacing the gasket? Either way make sure you prep both surfaces properly again

Definitely replacing the gasket, silly not to.

Wasn't thinking about the surfaces, is that really necessary?

    Hi,

i think you'd be safe to not have to do much to either surface as the gasket was never heated and engine ran so it won't have done it's job. Obviously though have a good look over both faces to make sure there is nothing still stuck on.

BTW - how the smeg did you put the HG on the wrong way?
