    Default Another Hilux LSD thread

Guys, just need a simple answer. I have a 4.33 centre out of a 70/80's Hiace in my car. Welded into a spool. Ive found a LSD centre, (no carrier or pinion/crown gears).
Its out of a 2001 hilux, would this LSD bolt into my carrier using my gear set with a minimum of fuss, ie just set up using the standard parts.

Also, I know these LSD are renowned for happy wheeling, does any body make upgraded washers that can be put into it it make it nicer/last longer. Getting a stronger spring or shimming them is easy enough, but surely someone has a better washer design out there?

    Thanx guys

Yes, the centre will almost definatly fit.

You will probably need new side carrier bearings though as the later hilux's had larger id bearings (50mm compared to 45mm).

Pull the centre apart and sandblast the metal disks in the clutch pack and shim it up as per normal. Doing this will cause the material to wear quicker and cause the oil to require changing more frequently though.

Thanx for that reply, Ive got the LSD appart and will be blasting the smooth disks in the morning.
In regards to shimming, do I just add the factory Toyota ones? Un fortunately I cant bench test the centre cos I don't have any spare axles. Id hate to make it so tight I break something or make it a locker.
Surely there must be a toyota spec on what to check to bring them up to factory spec
