7 rib bigports are 42mm crank 20mm gudgeons. the only ones with the smaller crank are the 3 rib bigports. no you dont have oil squirters

Hey everyone, been reading up on forged pistons and rods for my 4age.
ive read the bill sherwood page, 4age usa forums and gone through the archives here and still cannot come up with a definitive answer for my version of 4age.
My motor is a fwd bigport.
Tvis
From an australian ae82.
7 rib block
Red and black lettering on valve covers.
Unsure if it has oil squirters (doubtful)
Will it have 18mm gudgoens and 40mm crank OR 20mm gudgeon, 42mm crank?
If I read the info the americans write, its a 42/20. Sherwood page contradicts, says yes, but then says smallports only got the 42mm.
Im not ready to pull the motor apart yet (otherwise id be able to answer this question).id also like to start gathering parts in advance to reduce downtime.
Whats everyone think? 40 or 42? First hand experience would be greatly appreciated.

Trdee - cheers.great link too.
So basically as long as it has a 7 rib block (regardless of head style being big or small port) it will have 42mm journals?
while ive got you trdee, for a turbo build (150 rwkw max) what comp ratio pistons should I buy? Bigport or smallport gze? Is genuine toyota pistons still a popular option? Planning to reuse my original rods.also cant decide whether or not to use a toyota factory ecu (gze) or go aftermarket such as microtech.

Hi, Im enthused about corollas..
Yes anything 7 rib is 42mm.
8.9:1 genuine toyota is fine and I really would avoid swapping them out for whatever brand until you reach the limit of them.
td05-16g off an evo3: will do 150kw easily.
Go aftermarket for sure. Mate has an adaptronic on his 4agte and it works well. I only have one complaint with it which is pretty rare for me since I'm super picky. Never played with microtech so I can't comment. I have a megasquirt3 + 3X myself.
Thanks ken t. do you have a build thread on your car?
Id like to stick with toyota gze pistons and they should be good for my power requirements from what ive read. (anything 130kw and up id be happy
now to find some decent priced toyota pistons. Think one of our forum sponsors does them.. Aoyama?

Hi, Im enthused about corollas..
Uhhh, sort of? I have a crappy and slow (on hold) build thread of the silvia on ae86dc which I started posting corolla stuff in. The cororra (ke70) doesn't have a build thread anywhere but it's priority at the moment, so (carefully) throwing money at it to make it reliable. Wouldn't have to do all this stuff if I left the 4a in there.![]()

factory 8.9:1 pistons will piss in 150kw. 14/15psi on a T28 off an S14/S15 will get you there without any issues at all. pistons can be had from lithia toyota in the states for dirt cheap. yes any 7 rib block has the beefier crank. and yes i would definitely go aftermarket ecu. my pick is adaptronic as well. im making 180rwkw on my stock original 8:1 gze bottom end on 17psi
i would also recommend you get a walbro 255 or equivalent, and some 440cc injectors, so you have some headroom for later (you will eventually want more power, everybody does..)
dunno what the limits of stock pistons are, but they are high !
with the ecu, choose one that some one can tune. no point getting an ecu that no one in your area likes to tune.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
im going agree with most recommendations here.
Get stock smallport GZE pistons. They are tough as nails. If you manage to jag a trade account with Toyota, then they cost around $400/set for the last set i bought, but you will also need to buy rings on top of that. Maybe the USA option is even cheaper now with our AUD strength.
I definitely recommend aftermarket ECU. Adaptronics are proving ever more popular, and the price for their base model is dirt cheap given all the features it has! I will be running one on my 18RGTE, when i ever finish it.
S15 turbo is a good choice, as is the EVO turbo recommended. Both are amply capable of the power you want to achieve.
...... butt scratcher?!
stock smallport 8.9:1 pistons are found only in ae101, correct?
I emailed lithia toyota for a price this morning. see what $$$ they can do
t25g or t28bb have been the turbos i've looked at from day one. thinking an ebay hks style manifold..? (havn't researched that part very much yet)
I will do a walbro intake setup as well since my pvan now has a surge tank (swirl pot) built into the tank.
are 440cc from 7mgtes and 3sgtes? i think rx7's also use that size injector.
Witzl - good point regarding ecu.i need find a good 4age tuner in melbourne and pick an ecu they recommend. i did it the wrong way round last time with my celica gt2. brought a wolf3d (because the price was right) but couldn't find a decent person near me to tune it...

Hi, Im enthused about corollas..
Don't bother with Microtech. I used to play with them, but they are always behind the curve with their tech and software and you can get much better for your $$$, with better features and better software.
440cc injectors are found in the 7mgte. they are the top feed style, bolt in to the 4a rail. i think the 3s 440cc is a side feed injector.
rx7 is 550cc, also bolt in (i think they are purple ?). tho the rx7 injectors dont have a fantastic spray pattern down low, tho they work and will support oodles of power.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
Rex kelway high mount manifold. Can't go wrong.
When you say hks knock off, is it that cast piece of shit with the split pulse the wrong way? cos they be terrible.
You don't need a 4a tuner. You need a GOOD tuner. Someone that tunes racecars or something, not just a shop that's reputable and tunes average street cars because I find they don't really do a great job. Someone that's tuned and knows will be able to do it quicker but I'd rather pay more and get a good tune.
im using 440cc 3sgte injectors. they are gen 1 injectors though which are top feed low impedance, just like the 7mgte ones
i can get part numbers for the pistons and rings for you dude. they cost me $404 delivered for a full set of pistons and rings from lithia toyota. not sure what they would be now with the way the ex rate is going but they should still be pretty damn cheap one way or another.
just want to bump this thread up and ask another question.
fuel lines: atm my 4age is running on the factory ke70 tubing. 1/4" feed, 3/16" return, 1/4" vac/charcoal canister line.
this probably wont be suitable to run a 200hp 4a, correct?
Think i should change the piping and hosing to 5/16" (feed, return) and leave the vac as 1/4"?
PS: sorry for the imperial measurement scale.
PPS: im not american
