How to install MV autos shiftbox into A340E

Nah its a joke hey, all was well until last night i took it for a drive and then first gear would only work sometimes. Arrrrghhhh

Out with the test light(s) and had one in each solenoid to see what they are seeing.

Well we were getting back feed again on the road so i pulled into home to sus it out more and it wouldnt do it........ Its now apparent that it was back feeding from the Cluster display lights which powered up with the headlights so now with 3 more diodes on L 2 D cluster lights it now works with headlights on or off.

I read all the instructions and there are no sidenotes etc etc.

Phil if you stall your car up as much as possible how high does your hi-stall go?

I pulled the handbrake and footbrake and my supposed 2800 stall would see 3800 without turning the tyres!!! a little too high for my likings!

How much boost was it making at that point? A converter's advertised stall is not necessarily gospel.... for example a 2800 converter might stall to exactly 2800 on a setup that makes 100hp at those revs, but say you actually make more power at that point, it will stall higher. Does that make sense?

I see about 3200rpm from memory, then it either pushes the car through the brakes, or spins the tyres.

Best way to check the stall is not to sit against the brake, but drive along at slow speed in 2nd or 3rd gear with no throttle, then stab the gas and see what point it settles on momentarily before it takes off. Mine almost religiously goes to 2600-2800 doing this.

Yeah i figured that might be the case, it started making a fair bit (didnt look but it was noisy ) of boost 10+ pounds i guess but i was watching the tacho not the boost.

After driving it and having the OD work and also locking the converter it all seems pretty tame. I can feel the power the auto soaks up but i love it none the less.

One more thing, what sort of operating temps should i aim for?

80 degrees is pretty normal. Fit a large cooler and in winter you can expect it to take forever to warm up the gearbox oil... not a problem as such with regards to the oil viscosity or anything, but the shift valves are clearanced for operating temps of around 80 so "may" wear a little more over time. Mike at MV didn't seem to think it was an issue.

If you see temps going past 120, either lock the converter and cruise for a while, or park it for a while if its at the track, as the oil will start to permanently break down from here.

I see 110 degrees within 6 laps at WP, but rarely see temps over 60 degrees on the street, even with a Mocal 82 degree thermostat fitted on the cooler lines.

No linden your wrong yay! It's actually 82 deg.


Mine usually sits around 160*f but in traffic with the hi stall it's creeps up over 200*f and I did see it hit 250 with a caining so I'll mount a decent size cooler at the front as the B&M jobby in the inner guard isn't coping. (bloody knew it was too small but got sold by the rocket ind guy!).

After driving for a day or so I'm really liking it. Can't wait to get it tuned so I can get these mandatory videos up!

I cant believe that cooler isnt working.

Is the fan around the correct way?

Apart from that NFI why its getting so hot. What temps should it be getting? What size coolers do other people use?

There isn't a great amount of flow in there and as phil said it's the converter that creates most the heat cause when I lock it up temps drop almost instantly.

Cooler is installed the correct way and the fan kicks in at 80*c and off at 60*c.

I'm going to add a 1m x 1m cooler to the roof and see if that helps. :-)

actually with the cooler in the wheel well its actually a pretty complex question..

Maybe for some.... The force from the front will easily overpower the small amount of turbulance created by the front wheel/tyre. I have a large hole at the front and a cut out at the rear for the hot air to come out. When stationary and the fan kicks in you can feel the heat from the drivers window.

Is this a new addition or thats how its been so far and not working?
