Coil ballast resistor spec for a flatlight TA22?

I cant seem to find a resistance spec for the coil ballast resistor for an early flat light TA22.

The only reference I have found is the 1978 2T engine manual which states 1.3 to 1.7 ohm's. This still true for the early cars?

My car suddenly hard to start - plugs, plug leads, coil, distributor, points, battery all factory standard and in spec. Coil resistor reads 2.1 ohms and 4.9V at the coil+ve with ignition at "ON".

Any help appreciated.

mike...voltage at the coil side of the ballast should be 9v , this is because the coil is a 9v coil. When starting the car the ballast res is bypassed so 12v can be applied to a 9v coil...thus stronger spark. so check voltage on the ign side of the resistor and check voltage at pos coil terminal when cranking etc...hope this helps...

Thanks for your input.

The early cars are different in that they dont have the ballast resistor bypass from the starter motor solenoid for startup.

I'm pretty sure I have a coil and resistor thats now to old - 40 years old. 5v at the coil is going to make starting hard.

Get one with a built-in resistor, bypass/toss out old resistor, no guess-work.

Sorted. Tossed factory coil and resistor. Installed Bosch with built in resistor. Fired up first time.
