    Default Stuck flywheel

    Hey guys,

The flywheel bolts on my 4A have backed out, I've managed to pull them all out and theres no thread damage however the flywheel itself doesnt want to come out - It starts to move then gets stuck, it's binding up.

I've tried beating it with a rubber mallet, heat gun, and penetrant/locktite freeze and release. Any body have any suggestions before I go buy a blowtorch? I cant get a puller on anywhere annoyingly as theres no thread on the flywheel itself

bolt a piece of plate across the pressure plate bolt holes, weld a nut into the middle of the plate and use a bolt to push on the crank. Sometimes have to do this with trucks....

more hammer usually works for me too, just a little scared of hitting stuff to hard sometimes. Flywheels can be hard/expensive to get sometimes. My dad does have a saying though, when in doubt, give it a clout, the bigger the doubt, the bigger the clout

Old man has the same saying, used to work in a wrecking yard when he was in his teens. He was also the one who did the clouting today as I have the same fear

I have had two flywheels do this.

Once the bolts come loose the flywheel rocks back and forward on the crank transferring metal, this is what is locking the two together Scuffs up to an extent that it damages both. Check the bolt holes in the crank to see if the bolts do not wobble when fully inserted. Check carefully the crank and throw out the flywheel as the flywheel may also have oval shaped bolt holes The crank could have the lumps removed off with a hand file.

    Regards

Thanks mate, yes the flywheel is getting binned, however the crank is fine, some tiny scoring but nothing to prevent reuse. Bolt threads are amazingly ok

How did you find this out without ending up with flywheel shrapnel everywhere. Loosened flywheel bolts must have created a nasty vibration. Especially at high RPM.
