    Question 195/45 R14 tyres on a TA22

Found out today you can get 195/45R14 77V Falken ZE912 tyres, pretty keen to get them on my sillycar but I'm worried the tyre shop is gonna shy away from fitting them because of the load rating. My TA22 owner's manual has 165SR13 & 165HR13 on the tyre placard, anyone know what the load rating on these tyres are? I searched the intawebs and didn't find much on load ratings at all. I'm hoping it's the same or lower than 77 (416kg).

    If your paranoid.
    Put car on stands
    take wheels off
    buy, fit and balance tyres

Im guaranteeing the monkeys at the tyre store wont say anything.

What makes you think that the tyre couldn't provide an adequate load rating for a celic

Tyre shops aren't going to care about the load rating.

If they do refuse to fit it, buy the tyres and take them to the next shop and get them fitted.

Thought about taking my wheels in off the car... "speedway car" if they ask I doubt they will refuse though, they didn't mention the load ratings at all when I put my deposit on them, can't wait to get them on & lower springs for the rear, stance will look da bomb

That is a pretty damn small/short tyre for a TA22, I am concerned they are going to be too small to suit my KP Starlet. Post pics when you get them on.

In regard to tyre shops not caring about load ratings... A friend of mine bought a brand new set of 215/45/R17 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A off eBay and went down to Bob Jane to get them fitted to his car.

Whilst sitting in the waiting area the Bob Jane guys fitted the tyres and when done, told him the load rating was incorrect for the car (a Cressida). I can't remember what the load rating was, but it was just slightly under what it should have been. They wrote on the receipt in GIANT letters "CUSTOMER IS AWARE THAT TYRES ARE INCORRECT FOR THE VEHICLE AND ARE ILLEGAL".

Basically, the carnts fitted them without letting him know first and then put all the responsibility on him.

As an aside to this........I fitted 185x60x14 tyres to my TA22 and with the std diff it made my previously innacurate speedo bang on!

They did the exact same thing to me with 225/50-16s.
Except it states 'TYRES ARE INCORRECT AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED FOR RACE PURPOSES'

    So I raced home.

I'm running 195/60R14 at the moment, with the 195/45s I reckon the speedo will be 10% too fast. Smaller tyres should help with acceleration too.

That's just businesses covering their arses so they aren't liable if anything goes wrong. I wonder what they would say if I asked them to fit 195/45 to a 9J rim?

Photos when your done please? Interested to see what you think once there on. I'm running 195/60's and have been thinking of going to a lower profile.

Pics coming once the tyres get fitted. I'll put another couple up once I have lower springs in the rear.

    Hey guys,

Here's how the 195/45s look on the car with 14x7J +0P rims running KMFL-04 King Springs in the rear:

Pretty happy with them - oodles of grip, even in the wet & very progressive on the limit.
