maybe finally the hardasses from SA will adopt some of the other states more lenient rules now...lets also hope that the $2000 emissions tests will be abolished...

    Standardised...... riiiiighhhhht

WINDOW TINTING Any window tinting by means of an applied surface film must meet the following requirements. The windscreen of a motor vehicle must have a luminous transmittance of at least— (a) for a motor vehicle built after 1971 – 75%; or (b) for another motor vehicle – 70% except for the area above the highest point swept by the windscreen wipers or the upper 10% of the windscreen. If the windows of a motor vehicle are coated to reduce light transmittance, the following requirements apply:- • Visible light transmittance must not be less than 35% when measured through glass and film together. • Reflectance in the visible light range must not exceed 10%. • The coating must not be wrinkled, blistered, bubbled or discoloured such that visibility through the glass and film is impaired. • The windscreen may be coated only above the highest point swept by the windscreen wipers or the upper 10% of the windscreen.

Note: South Australian Regulations require a light transmittance of not less than 70% for the driver and front passenger windows.
    Seriously.....

All states except SA = 35% visable light
    SA = 70% visable light

Tell me the point of legal tint in SA?

So what state is the hottest/driest in Australia?.... oh that's right SA :S

I know but who wants uneven tinting, having 35% visable on the rear and then 70% visable on the front will look stupid.

Vote 1 for local gov... not.

but you can't have any tinting on the front windscreen.... and it makes sense not to have tinting on the driver and passenger windows.. so you can see if someone is about to hit you

look stupid? how so? to me it would look responsible, ie acknowledging the need to be able to see your side mirrors and be aware of the road etc etc....

When I say front I mean the front driver/passenger windows. I know you can not have any kind of tint on the windscreen.

You can see very easily out of your side mirrors with a visible light transmittance of under 70%. and I do believe it looks (I have seen it) stupid having two different shades on the front and rear side windows.

Are you saying that SA is right, and the rest of the country is wrong?

i think SA may have some silly rules, but what i am saying is that where i live, MOST cars come with factory tinting to the rear side windows only.. my car has tinting to the rear sides only (and rear window of course) i don't think it looks stupid. i think it is responsible

if your car is only for looks then sure it may look not as fully hektik as having tints all the way round.... but....

heck, for dorifto sikness, surely you would want clear front sides so you can see what is coming directly for you (ie you can see when you are going to hit dirt or another car, or a pole or whatnot )

i think it is preferable to have tinting on only the rear side windows instead of the front side windows, so then you can still see with no problem..ie maximum visibility for driving awareness.... think peripheral vision.
i think in that respect, SA has it more right than the rest of the states, yes

i think i slight tint on front side windows (at least drivers side) to stop the sun pelting in from the side and annoying you that way. my celica has big side windows as well so i do tend to cop alot of sun from them.
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

Mate, hottest/driest eh?? ever been in 40degree heat with 80% relative humidity?? I tell ya wat, 50 degree with 20% humidity is a walk in the park compared to what we get up here. why do you think we buy interior parts up here from down there?? the humidity just kills everything, and makes it all hotter. Go the superdark tint. 70% is fine for tasmania. They brought out the new laws in qld where your not allowed to leave your windows partially down at all... north qld mp's all tried getting that overturned for up here the day they heard about it... and coppas up here dont enforce it, cause its just too damned hot.

theres my gripe about the weather. Cheers, Owen

Speaking of rediculous laws, I have heard that its illegal to free rev your car in perth for a period of longer than 3 seconds?

    is this true?

Sorry, shoulda made that one clearer, not allowed to leave the vehicle unattended with the doors unlocked, windows partially down, sunroof open/partially open, or handbrake disengaged. And if it is an automatic you are not allowed to leave it in a gear other than park. Leaving the car parked for more than about 2 minutes in the lawful condition, even with a rear sunvisor, car cold from air con, and shades up on the front and the car is completely unbearably hot when you get back in. If you dont know what i mean, please come visit sunny north qld some time

    Cheers, Owen

i can't even imagine right now.. my car was MINUS 7 when i got in it last night.. brrrrrr

so anyway, i think it's good to finally have some consistency in the modding guides, and the forms they have now are quite neat... makes it easier for you and engineer to know what is going on...

and i'm especially happy that my plans are still valid.... gotta love the clause that says track is dependent on the original track, BUT only for the axle or front end being used

    flares here we come
