You'd have to get clarification from your trans dept regarding that, but my interpretation of the rules is that its based on the widest tyre offered for the original vehicle.

when i asked, it was said that the rim/tyre limits were to do with keeping speedo accurate (not isue if you go to programmable), and for bearing loading, and suspension geometry.
ie, not too much change in track or scrub radius.
where you have put in altered suspension components, it is (supposedly) ok to have wheels fitting width for the new components...
but i haven't paid to get that in writing yet ....

well updates are out
rollcage section sucks, eliminates grey area of getting 6 point engineered, gonna be jumpin up and down to get mine done before NCOP comes in up here.
well, its cant be approved under LK8, not sure what it could be approved under...

theres the link for those interested in reading the whole thing and viewing the changes.
heres something i found interesting
but alas, there is no link to view the new table, so who knows what they have done....Section LA
• Table LA1 has now been relocated to clause 2.13 of General Requirements and the table has now been reduced to two vehicle mass categories, 1100kg or less and over 1100kg tare mass.
• Table LA1 now applies to all categories that require certification under this Section of the NCOP.
• Mandatory upgrades for pre ADR vehicles that require certification under this Section of the NCOP now include split or dual braking systems and collapsible steering columns.
• Engine stops for vehicles operating on diesel has been added.

no engine or suspension updates yet
losing 6 point cages for the road is not such a bad thing, as there is no need to have a 6 point cage on the road everyday. unless you have conditional rego for racing only...
... you can still have bolt in front section...
edit:
• Clause 2.6 added advising that modifications to vehicles equipped with ESC not permitted under Section LS modification codes.
this will suck for a lot of new cars... no mods if there is stability control....

but bolt in is weak.
and when you want to build the cage to brace strut towers with a bar running under the windscreen below the dash aswell its hard with bolt in front legs...
im building the cage to get rigidity out of the chassis as much as protect me if i put it on its lid...
why do you say theres no need on road?
400hp at the tyres in a ke70, i say its needed, especially with chassis mods.

cos there is still a speed limit, and you are still supposed to drive sensibly
if the car is so unsafe that it needs a 6 point cage, then the argument would be that it is not fit for general use on roads.. ie, you could not expectr an average driver to just jump in and drive![]()

im not saying its unsafe, im saying i could feel the chassis twisting with alot less power in the last ke70, hence the desire to brace it to prevent this.
never did i say the car is unsafe, i merely said i want to brace it to hold the power...
i can still drive sensibly and too a speed limit on queensland roads, but i still want to be able to brace the chassis accordingly for when i want to put it on a track.
but i have no interest in building a limited registration track only car.
hence the giddyup mechanic and engineer will be copping![]()

Then it goes straight back to what Stu said.
If the chassis isn't strong enough to hold 400hp, then one would agrue that 400hp in that car is not safe.
Yes, there are ways around it, but straight on face value, its what it is.

but atleast im building it to be safe, you cant shoot me down for trying to build a safe car, which complies with the current laws.

I agree with that, I'm just putting an opinion forward from somebody on the NCOP board who may be reviewing your build.

yup i agree too...
but the whole point of the ADR and NCOP is to have a car that is safe for public roads with "almost" anyone driving... ie, a driver of average ability should be able to jump in and have no problems (auto vs manual aside)
surely you could build the structure so the front is braced except for the A to B pillar bars, and have them bolt in such that they do contribute to stiffness
lots of structures are bolted together, so no reason by bolt in front bars will not be good enough...
obviously not using this kind of bolt in point https://www.rhdjapan.com/images/prod...mal/Image2.jpg

how does having the A pillar legs welded in effect anyones ability to drive the car?
the front bend will not be braced, so as not to impede entry, and the cage will be designed in a way so that it will not obstruct vision from the drivers seat. side intrusions will be bolt in for track only, as i can understand why they are dangerous on the street...
how could i build the cage with a bar across below the windscreen line, which braces the strut towers, but still have bolt in A pillar? also having it hard against the pillar will make it a bastard to get in around the dash etc...
i just cant understand why they can say its illegal and unsafe, if you build the cage to stay as far away from the head as possible, i dont see you hitting your head on it in an average accident...
