    Default Engine choices for 1997 sr5 22r 4wd

After a mate just bought his 1UZ 4runner its made me decide to start Planning my next conversion and just looking at my options at the moment on whats gunna be the easiest way to go. The carbed 22r just isnt cutting it even after a cam etc these days.

Anyone done a conversion to this model hilux that has any idea's for a decently powered reliable 4wd? any off the shelf engine mounts? id like to just stick with the factory 5speed if i can

    1jz,v6,sr20,1g??

    any idea's would be great

3RZ, run NA until the need for boost is too much to resist. Would need 3RZ bellhousing but box & transfer would stay until you break them.

Why not go 1uz? I have put a few of these in hiluxs. Can buy all the stuff here in NZ for relatively cheaply bolt it all together. Wire up an ECU and your away. Makes for a whole lot of fun. Can use standard G box too. Mates 1jz one goes very well too.

I have a 3rz to suit rebuild for sale and also a rz-w58 belhousing if you go the 3rz route.

1uzs are ok but no power house
    I'd go ls1 or ls2
cost abit more at start but to get
same power from 1uz would even up the costs

I dont think he is after monster power. See how he says off shelf mounts etc use standard box. Would be much much easier to set up. LS*would be tough as alright and have a mean note but not quite such an easy bolt together job.

I would strongly suggest that he gets in contact with me very fast as I am about to give that model and year Hilux back to the owner with a 1UZ in it and I have 3 under construction. I do not sell pre made engine mounts or anything as a "Kit" as each conversion is different and also gets better. Sent one out a week ago that really had to be the best yet (UCF21 engine into 2001 'Lux)
