What Engine Will go?? Hilux 1997 model!!

Whats the latest model engine that will fit in a 1997 hilux petrol??

Is it a 2wd or 4wd?? whats the model number? I dont know if there is a difference between 2wd and 4wd, but the 97 hilux i used to have had a 22r in it. that means most r series engines will bolt straight in??

R series engines? Just a series of 4cylinder engines made by toyota. Just the name given to a series. older celicas had 18r's, possibly the most popular of the r series engines - cos the 18rg (2L twin cam 4 cyliner) was a good match for some older celicas. What engine will go in? How much you willing to spend? You could put a 1jzgte - 2.5L twin turbo - or something in, if you are happy to spend heaps, or a 1uz - the 4L lexus v8. anything can go anywhere, it depends upon $$$. A 2jzgte - 3L twin turbo out of the most recent supra's, is the best toyota engine - if you wanted to put one in, it would truly go.

If you want to keep it budget? Perhaps you could change the 22r to efi? Assuming it's carby, like mine used to be? That would help. Perhaps then, a turbo? 22rte? Ive heard of a few of them. Perhaps someone with a bit more experience will be able to give you more information? You need to look around a bit. A place like Toyospares, in Bayswater, Victoria, would do it all for you, if you wanted to pay them. Not sure where you are from.
