    Question 5efZe few questions.

Hey guys, I'm clearly new here and just wanted to share my plans and ask for some advice/ hints.. I'll give you a quick rundown of the situation so far.

My partners EL44 was writen off a coulpe of months ago and has been sitting behind the gate while we get her 'new' ST184R on the road.. That's nearly done now and she's now come to terms with 'the loss of her loved one', which leaves me with a write off in my drive.
A perfectly good engine and a very broken shell..
So I've decided that I'm going to strip out the engine, wires, ecu and a few other things and slip them into something else. Now the 5EFE has been nice and zippy but i've seen what it 'could be' if the engine wasn't so...... stock.
I've got decided to go for something a bit different and supercharge it. This is something that's set in stone, I know it can be done, I know it won't be cheap, I know there's cheaper easier ways to get power out of these engines and yes I know I could just get a better engine with a better starting point,
But, I already have this engine, I already have my mind set and I really do not want to go turbo. I've searched the forum and haven't really found anything on supercharging 5e's, i'm sure there's tons of better options but this is what I have and it's what I'm sticking with.

    So my questions are:
    1. Is there an inlet manifold I can use that would be suitable for this (ie: 4efte)?
(If not, does anyone know where i can get one custom fab'd for a fair price?)
    2. Does anyone know of any good, preferably 4e/5e orientated, engine builders around melbourne?
    3. Are there any parts from other engines (eg: A series) that are known to just 'bolt on' to the 5e (ie: cams, headers, manifolds etc...)?

Cheers in advance for any info you guys can share.

you won't need an engine builder if you just buy a 4efte out of a GT starlet, then you can unbolt your turbo and bolt a supercharger on. One off a 4agze would be cheap.

The engines done a fair few k's and I've seen a touch of smoke, not sure on colour it's been a while but I'm guessing rings, but I think at the least, if I'm going to squeeze more power out of her it'd be rather wise to at least put 5efhe rods in and I'm pretty sure I'll need 4efte pistons for the CR anyhow.
I'm aiming for around 150-200bhp so I'm considdering getting forged rods and pistons... just means I'll have to wait a tad longer for the end result...... also looking at the Sprintex S5-150 for the charger.

all Totoa rods are forged, also unless their stupidly thin like a Ford then boost doesn't wreck rods it's revs. Can you remind me what's different with the 5E bottom end like the rods?

I guess doing a reco on what you have no is a safer bet than taking your chances with a second hand 4efte

from what i've read the rods in the 5efhe are stronger, i think it's due to having a higher CR and toyota wanting a little more out of it.. i think that engine was used in the sera? not entirely sure.. either way i'm not sure about the other differences but i know it's rods a slightly beefier and it's got a higher CR..
what ever engine i was going to choose, which until the mrs had the accident was undecided, was going to get reconditioned/ rebuilt depending on what it needed.. and i figure i've saved a fair bit already having the whole car instead of needing to buy a half cut or this or that... so the savings made there can go else where, ie: rebuild, charger...etc.. what ever i feel the need to justify to the mrs.

yeah that's wiki, it's refering to the 5efe which is the tercel/ paseo engine.. the 5efhe was only (as far as i can remember) used in the sera and i think was only used for a few years.. i'll have a bit of a read around and try and find it again.. either way, wiki's far from complete on that page.

    finally found it....
    "5E-FHE

    Specifications:
    Year: ???? - 1998
    Displacement (cc): 1497
    Horsepower: 110 @ 6400
    Torque (ft-lbs): 100 @ 4000
    Bore (mm): 74
    Stroke (mm): 77.4
    Compression Ratio: 9.8:1
    Vavles per Cylinder: 4
    Valve Angle: 25°
    Cam Design: DOHC
    Ignition System: Distributor
Fuel System: Fuel Injected, excess fuel return
    Head Gasket Thickness (mm): 1
    Combustion Chamber Volume: 39 cc
Cars Used In: Paseo, Cynos, Sera

    General Info:
The 5E-FHE is essentially a beefed up 1st gen 5E-FE. It boasts a higher compression ratio, more agressive cams (higher lift/duration), a factory 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, and a harmonic damper was added to deal with the rev limiter because it was increased to 7200 rpm. In some instances it also came with an dual runner ACIS (acustic control induction system) intake manifold. To cope with this added stress Toyota threw in fairly strong connecting rods that are known to hold up to quite a bit of power. This is the strongest and largest of the E series engines which makes it the difinitive favorite of the bunch.

    Similar / Interchangable Parts:
Camshafts: 4E-FTE (slightly less lift / duration), 1st gen 5E-FE (slightly less lift / duration)
    Valvetrain: 4E-FTE, 5E-FE
    Head: 4E-FTE, 5E-HE
    Block: 5E-FHE
Pistons: 4E-FTE (lower compression), 1st gen 5E-FE (lower compression), 2nd gen 5E-FE (lower compression)
    Connecting Rods: 3E (downgrade), 3E-E (downgrade), 3E-TE (downgrade), 1st gen 5E-FE (downgrade), 2nd gen 5E-FE (1995-1996, downgrade), 2nd gen 5E-FE (downgrade)(1997+, downgrade)
    Crankshaft: 1st gen 5E-FE
Exhaust Manifold: 4E-FTE (turbo manifold, not recommended), 1st gen 5E-FE (downgrade), 2nd gen 5E-FE (downgrade)"

Good luck finding 5E-HFE parts, there aint many around.
If you do find one, buy the cams as well as they are the biggest/best of the E series engines.
Youll probably be better off just buying a set of Eagle rods from the USA while your buying pistons (these guys are great: http://raceeng.com).

If you dont find those 5E-HFE cams, i have a set of 4E-FTE factory cams for sale (PM me).
