Default 4AFE timing belt quick question

    Hi,
just replacing the timing belt on my sisters 4afe, belt poped yesterday.

Just regarding the timing, the engine knows engine postion from the distributor pickups correct? So just need to put the crank and cam sproket at the markings (1 on oil pump, other on the cam bearing cap) and it should be fine, nothing else needs to be done for timing right?

    thanks for the help

yup, stick it on TDC, theres marks on the oil pump for the crank and a mark on top for the cam, (make your own marks if you want) and mark the rotor in the dizy to make sure you get that back in the right place. (the dizzy will turn as its a helical gear, so youl have to move it 1 tooth, so it turns it self into the correct position.)

turn the crank 720 degress make sure all marks line up, then check the timing after.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

dizzy wont be coming out, so timing for the dizzy to the cam should be fine if i understand right? as long as the cam sproket and crank are in correct time then all should be fine. If i had to start from scratch with the dizzy out, broken timing belt (say rebuilding the motor) then i would have to put the cam to intake stroke lined up to the marker, crank tdc on the marker, then how do you position the dizzy?

theres sometimes marks on the dizy to time it to the cam at TDC, the gear has a dot and the housing has a line i think.

Old thread I know... but just confirming what fixeruperer has said.
    I re-assembled the 7afe head after dismantling a whole 7afe (for bottom end on7agze).

I was using a combined 4afe/4age workshop manual and the 4afe 7afe heads a virtually identical.
Yes there are specific marks where the dizzy meets up with the cam shaft that must be aligned properly.
