Large button looks like a kickdown switch
Hey Guys,
Its been a long time since Ive had the time to post in here, even longer since I got my Hilux, and planned working on it back when InfotechPlus was working on his.
Since then the car has gone through a few changes, a couple of house moves, but I still have it.
I am finally starting on this project, after 4 years or so of collecting misc parts, and changing over what I can when I can. The 1UZ that I got for the car I picked up from a toymods member at least 3 years ago, and have only just started to look at properly.
I have all my mounts, etc all sorted, and have the engine on a stand ready to have the timing belt, bearings, water pump, etc all replaced before going into my Hilux, as there wont be a lot of room in there once the engine is in.
The engine itself looks fine, inside is clean as, etc. The problem is with my wiring loom.
Ive checked all the wiring diagrams, and can confirm that I have a ~1990 model 1UZ loom. Wiring Diagram here (Thanks MWP!)
Following wires around, Ive got quite a few bits that have been hacked, that I have no idea what they are for, and thats what I'm after some help with.
Firstly..
The following plugs are located near the AFM. I cant find anything around that they would plug into, or why they would have been butchered as they have been. (These are for the Igniters. Thanks Cuzzo and litldv8)
As you can see, someone has hacked them up, and then soldered bits back together, and bypassed something.
The cut wires are White-Red, Yellow-Black, soldered together
White-Blue, Yellow-Green(Or Blue!), Also soldered together.
(Cut wires look like they are for an aftermarket ignition system. Setup as it is currently, it makes the ECU think the stock ignitors are still connected and working OK. Thanks George)
ECU Plug. The wires here are for the fuel injectors. Im trying to work out what the hell was done here. They arent joined inside the heat shrink, just covered for protection.
Would this be a sign of an aftermarket ECU previously being used?
And now a few misc plugs.
All of these seem to be located down the passenger side of the engine. I couldnt find anything to connect them to. (This is the auto loom. First picture is the Neutral Start Switch and the 12v indicators for PRND21. (Thanks Sciflyer)
I also have this large button, that I dont know where it goes, or what it is for. (Appears to be a kickdown switch for under the Accel Pedal for making the auto kick down a gear. Thanks Sciflyer)
Let me know if you have any questions, and I will find out as much information as I can from the loom here.
Thanks guys,
Herus

The AFM I have uses a 3rd plug on the same section of loom.
AFM plug below.

Right you are.
The first 2 plugs are for the igniters.
Any suggestions on why they would have been cut and shut?
Herus
the first 2 plugs would be for ignitors
one should have 4 of the five pins populated and the other has all five populated
the extra wire is the tacho signal
neil
butchered maybe for piggy back or aftermarket ecu

assembly is just the opposite of disassembly - just you swear in different spots!
yep the last pic is the kickdown switch that fits under teh accelerator pedal
the rectangular grey conector with 2 large and 7 small pins connects to the auto, the two large pins are the neutral start switch which you bridge together (or connect to a clutch switch) if not using the standard auto box. The others are +12v and indicators for PRND21

Igniter wires tweak looks like there was some aftermarket ignition system. Shorted are coil outputs and feedback signals. With the connection provided, ECU thinks its stock ignition system is running ok even though there're no coils connected actually. So ECU is not entering its failsafe (fuel cut) and keeps running.

Engine conversion is when you drive a shitbox which costs a whole LEXUS to own
Ahh Ok.
So that would mean the wires that I thought ran down the left side of the engine actually go back and run along towards the auto trans.
Would I be correct in guessing that all the other wires would be auto related?
so the 2 with the missing connector would be for the Speed Sensor?
George, it looks like I will have to re run the wires for the fuel injectors then, to make sure that they are using the factory management, and reconnect the cut wires to use the stock ignition system.

that an early ls400 loom so its prob much easier to try find another complete loom
should be around 200 bucks for a good 2nd hand one
much better than fking with the cut up one i have
I've got a complete LS400 loom if anyone's interested. It's the wierd LS400 ECU plugs but also have the ECU for it.
