Default Fans always on - overcooling 3sge gen 1 st162

    Hi guys,

My car is overcooling and 'hot' for it atm is just over cold...
Whenever i turn the car to 'on' the fans turn on, both of them. i think it may be the temp sernsor switch but i dont know where it is.
i am changing my thermostat sometime very soon but would also like to fix the fans.

any help would be appreciated, still learning slowly but surely

    thanks guys

    john

Having the fans going all the time isn't a real problem. What is the temp reading after driving roughly 5 or 10k's?
    Cheers Brett.

after 5--10kms it is still at starting temp (ie. not even on scale) or JUST touching it. if you have dont have a temp gauge like the st162 it has maybe a mm or so before the scale starts

well if its driving at over cold and never reaching the normal mid temp your fans aren't causeing a problem, the thermostat is the problem, the fans only cool the water thats in the radiator, the rest of the water will reside int he engine until it gets hot enough to open the thermostat. then the new cold stuff comes through from the radiator, start cycle again.

generally your fans only turn on when the water int he engine reaches a certain temp, the sensor for theis it just above the gearbox, on the hose inlet, there are a series of plugs, a single wire with a small white clip its your temp guage, green i think is the temp sensor and the brown i think is the fan control, should be a single wire.

but as said, if going all the time this will not cause a problem with heating, it may take a little longer to warm up, but not a problem

The thermostat would be the cause of the temperature always being low, however, the thermo fans are a different story.

Do you have airconditioning? If so check your aircon pressure switch... a failed pressure switch can cause your fans to come on as soon as you turn the key to ignition.

just make sure that the plug on the thermostat housing is plugged in properly and has a good connection. unplugging this will cause the fans to run non stop.
