so you haven't got it going yet? have you determined if the pump is pumping?

get three long pieces of hose the same size as they are now. put them on the pump ports, then put the ends in a glass jar full of fuel or metho or something. now wind the motor over and determine if the pump is working, and which hose the fuel is being sucked up and which one it's being pumped out of.

Yeah, well I've been at it for a couple of days now. I got my dad to put his hand in where the fuel pump goes, and I was turning it over by hand, he said that the piston or the cam lobe was coming in and out from the side there fore not hitting the arm on the fuel pump properly. So piston/cam lobe or whatever its called should be coming down from the top? I'll get a pic of my setup when my camera arrives shortly.

    Thanks

i think what your dad has done is he's put the pump in and hooked the lever around the back of the lobe, and the lobe isn't pushing on the lever the right way.

take it out, and make sure you put the lever in front of the lobe, it should push away from the block when you try to bolt it up if it's in right.

see if the fuel pump's actually working - turn the car on (prime the carby first, or just disconnect the coil so it doesnt have any spark)... and dis connect the feed line on the fuel pump - see if it squirts out fuel when you try and turn it over...

This sounds about right. Because there is a fair amoount of resistance (the spring) he's hooked the lever arm behind. Can often be difficult unless the bolts are long enough to start without having to also compress the pump at the same time and we all know that you wont get two sets of hands in there.

It shouldn't be from the top, should push straight out towards the side of the engine.

Quite a few people have touched on what is probably the correct problem and that is that the pump has been installed incorrectly lever in behind cam lobe instead of front of cam lobe. Did I notice a air compressor in the photos? It that case yes a bitch of a job to put on. Start by putting the lever of the pump towards the top of the hole in the side of the block then applying pressure on the pump guide it onto the studs. Unfortunately you have to apply pressure with one hand and screw a nut on with the other. At this stage do not concern yourself with the washers. Get one side on and the other will follow. ONce you have a nut holding it you can put the other nut with the falt and lock washer on. IOt would certainly make it harder with a air compressor in the road.

One thing that nobody seems to have picked up on is this. The pump may have been put on correctly but you will never pump any thing if there is a slight vacuum leak when the pump is stroking. You can blow air back through lines and hear it gurgling in the tank but it will not show up a vacuum leak. The earlier Crowns had a glass bowl filter on the inlet line. Once you change the filter you had to replace the seal for the glass bowl otherwise you had a lot of trouble to seal it. If you bought a genuine Toyota filter you got a new seal after market you did not. The idea then was to turn the seal over. Check for any leaks that may occur under a negative pressure in the supply line. Faulty hoses, cracked tube (it Is a paddock basher, isn't it?). If the pump is working and you say you have had this verified. Then the problem is either or or both of the above
