sounds like an awesome idea to me... no information for you though.
Hey guys, i had a quick look through and couldnt find a thread on this.
Im building a 2jz-gte powered 1986 xf ute. Just wondering if anyone on here has done anything like this before or has any information on what dramas i might run into.. not looking for criticism of any kind. Looking for help or ideas.
Cheers Shaun.

GOT: Suzuki SV650 with lots of mods - Almost stock XC falcon ute with 351 and gas
Building: TA22 with SR20DET
what dramas are you expecting to run into?

not entirely sure.. done some other engine conversions over the last few years but only really toyota engine in another toyota.. not sure about how the crossmember/engine mounts will sit the motor in the car. Height and forward/backward position in the engine bay.. i know it can all be worked around but knowing before you start is always a big plus
maybe PM 'wrench' he put one in a XE, may have some ideas for you.

thanks mate.. any help is greatly appreciated
why not a 4lt xr6 turbo engine . more power and torq than a stock 2jz ..
something different then the usual conversion people do too old fords....
should be a winner...
there are a few commodores and a commo ute fitted with 1j's (one is in the fastest 1j thread running some very serious times - 9's from memory), so a falcon ute with a 2j can only be a better thing!
As for fitting, shouldn't be too many hassles, big inline 6 coming out, fitting another inline 6... There are a couple sumps available from front to rear - one should go close to suiting (remmeber 1j and 2j sumps are interchangeable giving you a few more for sale).
oblvious steering clearance and brake clearance etc.... this will be easier if you are planning on going single turbo from the start as it is easier to position around such things...
Really you need to grab one and start measuring....
My advice would be to seriously consider what you want to end up with - ie.. stock 2j with twins and factory comp... or single and aftermarket comp... and go that way from the start, will save alot of mucking around later...
Good luck, and make sure you make a members ride thread with plenty of pics!
Cheers

i got part way through a 2j into an EB. it was going to fit in the bay no problems, sitting in almost the exact same spot as the 4l. The one i bought was an Aristo motor, and had the correct sump (cant remember which.)
From what i could tell, the rack and steering coloum would clear everything. Engine mounts lined up pretty much, and would have been easy as to make up some that would fit it in there. Thats pretty much as far as i got before i gave up because i couldnt really afford to do it.
All Aristos are front sump ^^
Not sure why you would waste a 2j on a dirty old $100 rally basher
While the xr6T maybe a pretty 'low tech' motor keep in mind that it has a extra litre over a 2j. Is it really that common anyway?
Anyways, I think XG where EFI or so im told, so you maybe able to grab a fuel tank from one to use a intank pump which presumably will also have baffles suitable for an EFI conversion. Wiring on 2jz standard loom is pretty strait forward and can be done in a few hours if you know what your doing. Like stew said, best to figure exactly what your doing from the start.
On the subject of gearboxes, an auto will be cheapest to keep. Im not sure how much room there is but a manual T56 maybe an opion too.
you could almost buy 3 2j's by the time you can buy a barra turbo (from my research)
not quite sure what that meansSEMI COMPLETE SUIT REPLACEMENT
although, it is alot cheaper than when i looked last
oh, probably less accessories and maybe loom/ecu?
