Pulley bearing maybe? Or check the starter tried spraying crc in separate locations?
Hi guys,
Need some help trying to locate the source of this whine that I get when the car is cranking. Engine is a 1JZ GTE out of a 91 model soarer, and has been recently rebuilt. Have embedded a youtube URL for the audio clip of the sound.
1JZ Engine Whine - YouTube
I have also heard the sound occassionally when tapping the throttle to above 2500rpm and then letting it go, it whines for a brief second and then goes away...if I hold it at approx 2500rpm you can here a faint whine every couple of revolutions, but not as loud as when it is attempting to crank over as in the clip.
Got a stethoscope, and trying to locate the sound, can hear it in the auto pan, the bell housing the back of the head etc...hard to locate. Hoping someone may have come across this before and knows what is causing it?
Oh, and the reason for the car not starting in the clip, is we removed the EFI fuse in order to not have it start.
Thanks,

Sorry forgot to mention that the serpentine belt has already been removed to elminate the possibility of it being a pulley whine. Will give the starter motor a spray, but find it funny that it still makes the whine slightly even when the engine is running and the starter motor should has been disengaged.
sounds like an engine starting to me mate.. only thing that could give a whine during starting is the mesh between gears of the pinion and the ring gear.. but like i said, just sounds like a car starting to me..
worry about starting noises if theres a clunk or grinding.. or if the noise is there while the engine is running, as whining noises can come from the timing belt when it gets old and stiff or too tight
